Yeah you're definitely going for a traditional look.

I still say you need throw pillows of different color/texture than your couch and chairs. You would ideally need to do redo your fireplace brick with a more ornate wood mantle. Traditionally design has a lot of complex angles and detail, especially in the trim work and wood furniture (just look at the details in the china cabinet).

Add in some wainscoting, too. You can DIY that on the cheap - check out youtube.

FYI the last pic on that link isn't traditional, its closer to industrial which is a complete clash of style to traditional that you're going for.

yes agreed, would need to ideally give that fireplace mantle a more refined renovation. dont think im living here for than 3-5 years so probably will hold off on doing that

You could go for candles on the mantel, on the both ends.

I like the furniture and rug, OP. Also agree with getting some colorful throw pillows for the couch. I'd say def put something like a credenza on that stairway wall and a nice piece of art above it or a nice framed mirror.

Now having said that, if you want some real constructive criticism and aren't just trying to humble brag my thoughts are it feels a little empty. Everything in it is nice but you do need a few more decorations of some kind.

You could add something to the side tables other than just the lamps. Maybe some picture frames of family? Does the mantle have room to put anything on it? Maybe a vase of some kind if there is space. Potentially some type of center piece to the coffee table as well.

I would try to find some throw pillows for the couch that match the red or other colors in the carpet. And maybe one small pillow for each of the chairs since they look really plain as they are.

is there anywhere to move the chair closest to fireplace? i think a fireplace should be the focus of the room. Is there another room you could put one of the chairs? Or maybe turn the chairs a little to face the couch so if someone is sitting there the fireplace isn't completely blocked?

Also need something for the middle of the coffee table. A nice crystal bowl or something.

floors dont match stairs. none of the tables match. sofas dont match (get blue chairs). needs family photos on the wall for personal touch. something on the mantle. whats behind the doors? a closet or another room? if another room i would take the doors off. also the setup should be different. youre blocking off the view and use of fireplace.

Only thing I like in this room are the windows and where the crown molding stops at the archway would bother me. I do like the craftsman style door casing, I have similar.

Solid base. I would change the artwork for a larger piece on top of the fireplace, something abstract that brings the room to a modern space. Also, you need a couple of plants.
