Joe Biden desperately seeking endorsement from Taylor Swift to boost polls

Joe Biden is attempting to recruit Taylor Swift as an influencer for his presidential campaign to boost his ailing poll ratings before the upcoming US election.

The president’s campaign believes the pop star, 34, could restore his support among young voters and is pushing her to endorse him on social media.

Swift, who was named Time’s Person of the Year and Billboard Magazine’s Greatest Pop Star of 2023, is enjoying unrivalled press coverage in the United States with her sell-out Eras tour and new relationship with Travis Kelce, a prominent American football player.

The singer endorsed Mr Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 and is believed to be a Democrat, publicly supporting LGBTQ rights and access to abortion. In 2018, she supported Democratic candidates in the congressional race in Tennessee, where she lived as a teenager.

Swift, who has 279 million followers on Instagram, has previously shown she has the power to win over her supporters on political matters. Last September, her call for fans to register to vote resulted in more than 35,000 sign ups, according to the non-partisan charity Vote.org.

Gavin Newsom, California’s Democratic governor, singled out Swift when asked about the role of celebrity endorsements in the 2024 campaign.

“I think Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” he told reporters in September. “What she was able to accomplish just getting young people activated, to consider that they have a voice and should have a choice in the next election, is profoundly powerful.”

Mr Biden’s re-election campaign is struggling with younger voters, as many have deserted him for Donald Trump or decided not to vote at all after becoming disillusioned with the current administration’s support for Israel and perceived failure to tackle climate change.

I can see it happening with Trump being a nominee. The whole endorsement can just be talking chit about Trump and "we have to pick this other guy who you all don't like but at least he's not Trump". That's why so many wanted someone else, especially after the 2022 disaster. Nikki Haley is a much safer pick, no matter how much cultists hate her.
