Im not a big fan of montclair. upper montclair has some BEAUTIFUL streets with nice homes but the schools suck and theres too many liberal pink haired weirdos there. its too much like brooklyn

I can't imagine accepting such low quality of life that you'd live in New Jersey for $15k per month and ride the train for 120 minutes each day to your 50 hour per week job, and on top of this paying 55% of your income in taxes. Surely there's a better way to do things.

I'd honestly rather step over bums on the sidewalk.

because i cant walk more than 200 feet from my office without walking by about 10-20 different firms that also pay on average of like 500k to one million for average employees.

nyc firms pay a **** ton to a lot of people. many of them dont want to live in nyc due to the crme/filth. so they move to upper montclair/glen ridge and happily pay 1.5 million for a nice home. alternative is move to SF and pay 1.5 million for a 1000 square feet

thats why nj still has buyer

This is the truth. An SVP in IT can make well over 500k / yr.

And northern Union county, NJ isn't bad...45 mins from the beach, 45 mins from NYC and all it has to offer, 45 mins from PA and skiing, hiking trails, lakes where you can buy a vacation home. 20 mins from EWR. It's actually pretty nice.

This is all fine and good, and yeah all the numbers might sound good, but this is literally misery. Once you enter this life path, you have virtually no autonomy.

Buying a $1.5M house in New Jersey is like basically committing yourself to being the highest paid slave.

This is actually less in Property Taxes than I thought it would be. But you're living in a non-walkable place with no real amenities, so you're not getting much benefit for this $20k per year at all. Basically schools, and that's it. If a person lives in these areas and has no kids, they're basically cucking themselves.

montclair isnt walkable...you srs brah?


people drive in from way far out to montclair to walk around the town. its arguably one of the nicest little small town experiences in the east coast where you can walk from your mansion to the city center, hop on a train to nyc, or grab coffee, ice cream dinner etc

probably the most walkable town in the east coast lol

Not true. I’m originally from Union County NJ. It’s a chit hole. Taxes thru the roof. Crazy traffic.

Northern Union County is Elizabeth, Hillside and Union. Absolute crime infested dumps.

45 mins from the beach. Maybe to Sandy Hook, I’ll give you that. But Sandy Hook is meh on its best day. And those are the days they don’t bus in all the inner city kids.


It is close to NYC, but you can live next to any large city. And honestly, I was over going to NYC when I was still a teenager.

Newark airport is convenient though. Since they fly everywhere. Even though it smells like piss and has homeless people living and sleeping there.

I was referring to the Summit area which is Union County. It is actually 1 hr 10 mins from Camelback Mountain Resort in Tannersville, PA so I did underestimate that distance but everything else is about right.

It's rural but I like Warren, too. You get way more for your money and I like the idea of more property. Those houses you posted are very close together. Mine is pretty close to my neighbor's too, but we have huge evergreens on the property lines so it doesn't seem like it.

Morristown is a nice place, too.

Oooof, property taxes got to be brutal in Summit.
When I moved from Union County, I went to Bridgewater. Taxes were $1200 on a 1800 sq ft house on 3/4s of an acre in 1997. From there I went to Warren County $5000 on 3600sq ft.
Then to South Carolina under $1000 for 3800 sq ft.
