Portland gonna Portland

Wincel would be proud….nothing like having terrible government policies result in disaster, then turning to those same people to fix it.

https://apnews.com/article/********-...1b6832e0275f3a

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Several elected leaders in Oregon declared a state of emergency on Tuesday for downtown Portland over the public health and public safety crisis fueled by ********.

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson made the declaration for a 90-day period during which collaboration and response will come from a command center downtown. The three governments are directing their agencies to work with first responders in connecting people addicted to the synthetic opioid with resources including drug treatment programs and to crack down on drug sales.

“Our country and our state have never seen a drug this deadly addictive, and all are grappling with how to respond,” Kotek said in a statement.

The declaration is a recommendation from a governor-established task force that met for several months last year to determine ways to rejuvenate downtown Portland.

The program doesn’t establish any goals to measure success. Kotek said the next 90 days will provide a road map for the next steps.

The synthetic opioid addiction and overdose crisis that has gripped the U.S. for over two decades has left governments at the federal, state and local levels scrambling for solutions.

At the state level, Oregon lawmakers have introduced a new bill that would undo a key part of the state’s drug decriminalization law. Public opinion has soured on it as public drug use has become more visible because of growing homelessness.

Wait... are you trying to assert that because drugs have been decriminalized in Oregon, that this is the reason for the fent crisis?

Oregon has believed that legalizing drugs would lead to fewer problems. That theory has turned out to not be true.

Closed Borders, Not Drug Legalization Will Reduce the Drug Crisis!

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/202...l-reduce-drug/

Guest post by Antonio Graceffo

The U.S. southern border is currently in chaos, with crisis-levels of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers crossing on a daily basis. Several Republican-led states have deployed their National Guard to secure the border, while Washington has sent federal officers to keep it open.

The Biden regime’s loose policies on immigration and asylum seekers encourage illegal immigration and human trafficking, as desperate people from Latin America, and as far away as the Middle East, China, and Africa see a path to residency or citizenship in the U.S. despite having entered illegally.

The open border is promoting human trafficking, a business now dominated by the same cartels flooding the U.S. with drugs.

The more business lines the cartels have, the more money they make; the more weapons they can buy, and the more political power they can exert. As the financial stakes increase, rival cartels also want to cash in, and turf wars erupt.

As Americans Scramble to Protect Retirement Accounts With Physical Gold and Silver, A Faith-Based Company Shows Them How

The resulting violence is destabilizing Latin America, preventing economic development, decreasing the standard of living, increasing insecurity, and encouraging illegal immigration to the U.S.

Liberals in the United States argue that legalizing drugs would decrease crime domestically and eliminate the influence of cartels, thereby contributing to stability in Latin America.

This viewpoint finds resonance among left-leaning leaders in the region, exemplified by Mexico’s President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He called for drug legalization in the U.S. rather than assuming responsibility for his own inability to bring cartels to heel.

An often-cited argument in favor of open borders, particularly concerning narcotrafficking, posits that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) predominantly seizes drugs at legal ports of entry, often carried by U.S. citizens.

Consequently, proponents argue that non-citizens crossing illegally are not a significant part of the problem. However, this conclusion is deemed preposterous as the quantity of seized drugs provides no insight into the actual quantity that successfully enters the country......

Where did I say it’s THE reason(as in singular)? I said the leaders in that area have helped create the problem. And yes, decriminalizing hard drugs is one of the things that have made it worse. But don’t take my word for it.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/30/u...emergency.html

Many cities are struggling with the fallout from ********. In Oregon, the problem was accelerated by a law voters passed in 2020 that decriminalized the use of so-called hard drugs, including methamphetamine and ********, and not just marijuana, which was already legal in Oregon and many other states. At the time of its passage, Measure 110 was celebrated as a first-in-the-nation law, an attempt to recognize drug addiction as a health problem, not a crime.

Under this law, Measure 110, the police are supposed to refer people they see using ******** to treatment, and not send them to jail. But, in reality, many ******** users have ignored these referrals and continue to use the drug openly in parks, on city buses and in front of restaurants with impunity.

Couple that with defunding police, having a terrible approach to the homelessness problem, and countless other potato approaches the far leftists there are taking, and we see the result.

Are you saying decriminalizing fetanyl use hasn’t contributed to the fentanyl problem there??

You forgot to explain what caused the problem in all other states for and for years and yearsbeforeOregon decriminalized drugs, son.

You forgot to admit that decriminalizing fent use has caused the problem to significantly worsen there. Imagine being so demoralized and programmed to parrot whatever bullsh!t your masters instruct of you, that you’re willing to take such a retarded stance on this issue.

But if you want to talk about other factors, sure we can talk about China and an insecure border after you are able to realize Portland’s approach has made the problem worse. Then we can move on to the other failures that contribute. But if you can’t even understand something as simple as Portland’s failed approach then you don’t stand a chance when it comes to the other more nuanced issues.

Who are my masters and what am I parroting? The only parroting I've seen here is being done by you, son.

You post an entire article and didn't read it, apparently. The cause for the rise in visibility, as cited by your source, is homelessness, son.

Makes sense, too, when you consider a drug addict without a home will not be doing drugs in his or her home.

As for Trump, he was too busy eating "the most beautiful chocolate cake" with Xi to do jackshiit about anything with China.

The narrative you’re parroting is “no, these decriminalization measures haven’t had an effect on the fent problem(just lmfao).

What I said was(which you apparently think is a narrative):

Not sure why that upset you so much. Maybe you should take some time to reflect on why that statement bothered you.

Wait... are you trying to assert that because rape has been decriminalized in Oregon, that this is the reason for the increase in rape?

PS, now you know why the left wants guaranteed housing for all the homeless as it helps hide the effects of their policies.

Wait... are you asserting that if the 2nd Amendment were repealed and guns made illegal, gun crime will decrease in America?

I know a lot of the leftist personas here have trolled a good bit in the past, but there used to be at least some instances where decent discussion could take place. Now it seems like all they have left to do is troll, likely due to how terribly a lot of the policies are failing. Kind of sad…

Imagine, with a straight face, the groomers here trying to make the argument that decriminalizing something wont result in more of it.

Sucks for Oregon but... hopefully it sets an example for other states not to fully decriminalize drugs.

You can't save people from themselves. Even close family members usually can't help, there's no fukkin' way government can do it.

There is no "solution", all I see is costly mitigation, and jails are fine for that.

See post #2 in this thread…and basically all of your other posts. All you’ve done is mock, build and attack strawmen, and insinuate that decriminalizing fent use hasn’t contributed to the problem there(when even NYTimes can see how obvious that aspect is).

No discussion of the other issues which have contributed to the problem there. Just the usual trash and zero meaningful conversation.

Honestly, I’d be fine with a “decriminalizing” approach if they did it like some of the places in Europe. But over there, there are very strict programs that people must participate in to avoid jail and other troubles. And the programs are effectively designed to get to the root of the problem. Not this whole victim mentality approach that has infiltrated so much in America. Simply having a cop go “hey guy, perhaps you should stop doing that and go get help” does absolutely fukk all to fix anything. And yes that’s hyperbole, but not by much…as evidenced by the ballooning problem. Hopefully their updated approach will be more successful, but based on their recent track record I’m not very optimistic.

Listen up, son. Are you going to start smoking crack or doing fent if it becomes decriminalized in your state? Srs question. Every single person I've ever asked that question to says they would not, yet they somehow think everyone else will.

Putting users in jail will not stop them from being users. The fail in the initiative is that the programs to get people off drugs haven't been implemented. You can't just decriminalize and then that's that. Whether you keep it criminalized or decriminalize it will not lower usage.

I didn't bring Trump into this, tardo - I responded to someone who brought Trump into this.

No discussion of the other issues which have contributed to the problem there. Just the usual trash and zero meaningful conversation.
Listen up, son. Are you going to start raping or sodomizing woman if it becomes decriminalized in your state? Srs question. Every single person I've ever asked that question to says they would not, yet they somehow think everyone else will.

Putting users in jail will not stop them from being users. The fail in the initiative is that the programs to get people off drugs haven't been implemented. You can't just decriminalize and then that's that. Whether you keep it criminalized or decriminalize it will not lower usage.
Doesn’t matter what I would or wouldn’t do. The results speak for themselves. And yes, decriminalizing things has resulted in an increase there. If prostitution is legalized/decriminalized do you think occurrences will go up? Again, the facts are indisputable with regards to Portland, hence them issuing a state of emergency. And again, we both agree there are multiple policies that are contributing. I just don’t see how you can say that the decriminalization aspect isn’t one of those policies. It clearly is.

And again, as I mentioned above, I wouldn’t have a problem with the decriminalization piece if they took an approach similar to some of the European countries. But they have other aspects which actually help. Coupled with certain(good) policies, decriminalization could be a good thing. Coupled with certain(bad) policies decriminalization could compound the problem. Portland is in the latter group. It shouldn’t be that hard to comprehend.

Increase among? Doctors and lawyers now just roll up and do some fent before seeing client/patients because they don't need to worry about jail time?

If guns are criminalized, will school/mall shooting occurrences go down? Srs question.

It's a state of emergency in all states. How come opiates/fent has steadily increased over decades in areas where it's illegal?

Go ahead and tell me how the drug war has been won, son.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-w...ency-portland/

Oregon has struggled with increasing overdoses in recent months, specifically from synthetic opioids, causing backlash against a 2020 law that decriminalized small amounts of most drugs.
The state is dealing with the largest increase in synthetic overdose deaths in the country and the third highest of all overdose deaths, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A proposal to roll back parts of the decriminalization law has gained bipartisan support in the state Legislature. The new measure would re-criminalize the possession of some hard drugs and force those arrested for possession into addiction counseling.

Hmmm… I wonder why the problems there are so much worse than in other parts of the country. Hopefully we can figure it out. Also, you may want to reach out to the legislators there and let them know they shouldn’t reverse their approach!

Just lol at your potato view on this topic. Then again, I guess that’s why you have to make such terrible strawmen, like saying I’ve declared that we won the war on drugs.

Not sure why it’s so hard for you to admit the policies there(INCLUDING DECRIMINALIZATION) have made the issue worse. I mean, basically everyone else in the world has already admitted it.

Because when addicts aren't in the system for possession, they're on the streets using. When addicts are on the street using and don't have to fear jail, they're less inconspicuous with their use.

It's been your contention that the decriminalization of drugs is causing people who never thought to use hard drugs, such as yourself, to start using them which is what I disagree with, son.

And your contention is that these are not addicts dying, but people like yourself that decided "since it's decriminalized, might as well take some fetty," eh, son?
