This was a tough week for trading, if you didn't make it, don't feel too down on yourself.

I feel strongly that yields will pop as well.

US weed stocks booming still.

It was this thread that awared me on Canadian MJ 5+ years ago pre-legalization. That run up gave me the $$ to buy a duplex before the big sell off.

Made $750 from a NVDA $670 2/9 call flip today. I had paper hands though, just wanted quick money. Little did I know it would've been $17k-21k PROFIT towards end of day if I just held onto it all day :'(.

I’m up a few bags on my six amzn calls expiring at various times later this year and early next.
I have a target at $185 to sell half, and hold the others expiring next year until past $200

Lately seems like you just can't go wrong with tech stocks though, I just don't like the risk. I don't even daytrade.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that approach.

1. Much less stress.
2. Much less time consumed.
3. You build up a big enough investment total and the annual returns match and beat those of day traders.
4. Passive income is always a win.

Also, you only hear about peoples’ wins. It’s proven over and over that the majority of traders and financial advisors, like almost all of them, don’t beat the market.

If they made real money they'd start their own firm and make more money off their "skills". No different than gamblers; you only hear about the wins. If I were making so much money, I'm sure af not spending time bragging about it online.

this is very true. The first few years I traded I fooled myself into believing I was successful by only recounting my wins. The worst thing is to tell your friends about how much money you're making. Pretty sure sign you're actually losing. I would discourage anyone from trying to daytrade. Very few people are good at it and almost everyone will do better in the long run by buying and holding. The exception would be selling deep OTM covered calls on your holdings and selling CSP on what you want to own.

I mitigate risky options strategy by knowing how to manage the trade but also from using a very stable strategy.

The best thing to do for sure money is to buy dividend payers whenever they are cheap and build a huge base to sell CCs on.

Never sell your dividend payers, buy puts against them when you feel they are going to take a downturn and if you need cash, take out a loan instead of selling. I much rather buy stocks that pay me to hold them than stocks that run really high and really low while paying nothing for that pain. I buy calls and puts on NVDA but I buy VZ stock, this gives me the ability to participate in tech gains in a greater way than just buying the stock but with less risk(to me).

If you catch these div payers at the bottom then you make money three ways very easily, dividend payment, stock appreciation and selling CCs.

Yup VZ is my #1 position now after the dip end of last year, juicy divy and up 30% on shares. When I bought the divy was over 10%

bonds down

yields up

dollar up

market up

rare as it gets.

the opposing force of market up is yields going up / dollar strength

but here it was today.

start of year rate cuts was 6 by wallstreet for this year

now its down to 4.5 cuts vs fed 3

gap has closed

however two good inflation reports and you will start hearing 50 bps cuts on table next month for May/June meeting .

I need they need labour market weakness to avoid an ‘80s style inflationary spike, the economy seems to be doing just fine at current rates

Fed Funds rate was already mid 2% before COVID hit, entirely possible the neutral rate today is 3-4%

Bought a few 02/09 $705 Call Options around market open at $689 price point for NVIDIA. Then it fell into the lower $670's as anyone watching the chart would know. Dragging these contracts down to less than half my purchase price. But I held and held, seizing the moment towards the end today when it breached $694. +$450 not bad, but could've been way better if I timed the buy during the moment it reached the $670's. F.

Volcker needed secret service protection when he crushed inflation back in the ‘80s

There is still so much money flying around man, I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone with assets before 2019 who doesn’t have far more today

The problem is that the upper 10-15% of people are doing far better. There’s maybe another 10-15% roughly the same or a little better. Then there’s everyone else. The gulf between haves and have nots is widening which sucks. Our entire system has worked when we have a big middle class.

How long are you holding your NYCB puts? I might look into long dated calls. They put aside $500m for further credit risk, took a $200m hit this past Q for write downs, and still had decent results aside from that. They cut dividend so they’ll stack cash quickly again too… I don’t think they are at real risk of going under and still paying full div for pref shares.

Yeah the COVID QE/money printing surely exacerbated it, people who had assets going into COVID likely almost universally saw the value of those assets explode and people who didn't have assets likely fell further back -- this is really not what society needs

Well phuk. I bought $3C for Jan 2026 for $2.40

I guess we will see. I really cannot fathom that their entire business is unsound and yet continued paying dividends to both common and preferred shares. Seems overblown.
