Just got diagnosed with melanoma. Feels bad man.
Like most young stupid people I spent my late teens and early 20s outside a ton without sun screen. Even went into tanning beds before vacations or weddings. Always thought skin cancer wasn’t gonna happen to me.
Well after getting many basal cell carcinoma removed (less serious skin cancer), I just got diagnosed with the big guy, melanoma. Doctor says it was caught early, but what’s crazy is I have had that spot for 11+ years and several other dermatologists have seen it, no one said **** until I went and saw a new guy last week.
Stay safe brahs.

How big is the spot? Have you not noticed it getting larger, changing color, being uneven/blotchy/undefined borders?
Went through a scare myself but it ended up being a normal spot.
Edit: 11 years? Surely you’d see it have enlarged and changed.

Safe AND effective
Isaiah 45:22-23. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Damn that sucks. That thing about 11 years is scary. I've had a spot on my back for 10ish years but I don't go out shirtless or tanning or anything, never really have. My doctor said it's nothing but after what you just said I've got pause

Srs thread so I'll forgo the usual comments.
OP, this is a common form of cancer and one that is very treatable if caught early on. I know people who had this on their face and came out of it unscathed, you will almost certainly be fine in the long run.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Moles can turn into melanoma. That's where a sizable minority of them happen.

my grandmother got diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer last week and never smoked a cigarette in her life.
she was in pain this past year and her family physician did x-ray scans every month, checkups, tests, but said nothing was wrong.
last week, after going to the ER because she had trouble breathing, they did a CT Scan and found out she had a tumor in her lung that metastasized to her bones
never trust the opinion of a single doctor

Damn bro, sorry to hear that. I spend a ton of time outside myself so I should probably start getting stuff checked. My last physical my doctor just asked if I had any spots I was concerned about and didn’t even look at anything…not really his fault though since a doctor doesn’t have time to physically inspect every inch of every patient. What caused you to go to a new doctor, and what caused them to want to test it? Seems like if it was that easy someone over the past ten years would’ve done it.
And on the bright side, at least it’s one of the better ones to get. I know that’s probably not much of a consolation right now, but hopefully it’ll be a relatively smooth road ahead.

my primary doctor never checks/asks if I have any spots. Am I supposed to keep track of them myself or go to a dermatologist regularly? I used to spend a lot of time outdoors without sunscreen as a kid
