it's honestly an enigma how out of all Nintendo systems this is the one that outsells all

45 million people bought Animal Crossing f.e... WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUK?

also nobody wanted a WiiU, brb those WiiU ports are the best thing since sliced bread lmfao

as I said, an enigma

curious for the successor though, wonder if the line-up is gonna be 80% Switch ports lol

Every kid under 14 has one lol...its appeal is enormous.
The Wii U was great, but you couldn't step away from the console or it would disconnect....its was the BETA version of the switch and were the testers.

Consider how many people raise their kids with phones/tablets/handhelds and it all makes sense. Sure there's a lot of adults enjoying switches, but I'd wager majority of those sales are for small kids as a babysitting device.

Actual exclusives means you need a switch for a huge library of games you can't get elsewhere. Who woulda thunk

AC came out during peak lockdowns and was HUGE during that.

Also Nintendo has a bigger audience than sony/xbox they capture a lot more casuals while sony/xbox is more hardcore.

yeah I know they're doing well now and I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan

just blows my mind that the (in my eyes) 2 worst systems of the lot are the best-sellers

Wii is absolute gutter trash, nothing redeeming about that

Switch is a decent handheld (not my kind of thing) but as a console it's just a WiiU 2.0

also a lot of games that are the top sellers I don't see the appeal at all

I'll always get the latest Nintendo console but it's only for a handful of games a year if I'm being honest while in the past they had a complete library of appealing titles

I'd even argue WiiU library > Switch library (if you take out all WiiU ports)

appeasing to the masses doesn't do right for the games, best examples are the Mario sports games that are only a shell of their N64/GC counterparts

dumbed down to the max so everyone from 1-99 can ""enjoy"" them

Nintendo has always been king of handhelds.

Only once did they have a serious competitor the PSP.

It works. The gamers who gaf about graphics are a niche community. Most people rather play switch, it’s gotten the competition beat in exclusives but has had a long head start obviously.

And I say it before Nintendo games are harder to beat than most m rated games ever were.

I beat a lot of games I know. Uncharted, tlou, all way easier than the best Nintendo exclusives. I gave up where’s re4 and ffviiR I beat with ease compared Metroid dread and donkey schlong

I'm not talking about graphics, what has Switch brought to the table that was new and exciting in 7 years?

you'll end up with a very small list of actual worthwhile Switch exclusives

they're in the business of making money and this is their lane and its by far the most profitable and sustainable lane. Even sony is running into cost problems because they rely on super big budget games. It wont last.

Nintendo is winning now and they can follow the same formula to win in the future unlike Sony.

I'm aware they're making bank and their strategy is paying off

but see my first post, just don't see why Nintendo is selling like hot cakes NOW while when they were absolutely GOAT tier (N64, GC) they had mediocre success/popularity

I just don't get it

idgaf about sales, as mentioned above I'm aware it works so good for Nintendo

but as a gaming enthousiast and lifelong Nintendo fan I do believe the Switch exclusive lineup is pretty lackluster for SEVEN years

if you didn't have a WiiU you might see this differently but for those few that had one like me a lot of the top "Switch" games offer little added value

The jrpg library is the most massive this past gen.

Metroid dread, DKC TF (Wii u port), Mario 3D world bowsers fury (total Mario package), xenoblade 1-2 (torna), fire emblem 3 houses, octopath traveler, super Mario odyssey, Luigi’s mansion 3, pikmin 1-Mario kart, splatoon 2-3, bayonetta (3 I didn’t like much), i got 80 some switch games and who knows maybe <10a% are multiplatform or ended up being such. And maybe some of the best switch 1st patty’s are ports. Still enjoyable on switch. I am leaving out tons especially from the jrpg library

I think the Wii success is a lot more bizarre to me. N64 getting mogged by Sony was expected since games cost nearly twice as much plus had cartridge limitations on top of it.

Switch still has a really good library if you remove the WiiU games. Even the WiiU ports are new to 90% of Switch owners since the WiiU sold so poorly.

the industry and audience is way different than back then. Gaming back then was still a niche incel thing or just children. Its a much different situation now when you can sell consoles to karen's with the proper marketing and games.

Sony and Nintendo are the only companies left that actually CARE about making great products and great games for its end users

The other american company only cares about profits

Sony is better than MS but lettuce be real, they were ready to go full retard with GAAS garbage, increased prices by 30% on online services a few months ago, and were the first ones to push $70 games. They have no problem squeezing the playerbase.
