I think they're nuts to try that. Johnny's as synonymous with those films as Harrison Ford is with Indiana Jones. this girl taking the lead won't stand a chance unless JD's in it as a side character (which would make sense given his age).

he also 'won' his case with Amber so I don't see the issue with his reputation. He said publicly he doesn't want to do another Pirates but money solves everything when it comes to that stuff.

Otherwise, that movie will fall right on its face. Pirates isn't even one of those "lets put women in the forefront and make it woke" films, the originals already had a very strong female lead in Keira Knightley

some of the swaps were fine. I thought Jaimie Fox's Electro was pretty good.
Heimdal - i can't imagine anyone else playing the part now. (not that i expect him to show up anymore).
the bat girl swap was terrible though.

Halle Berry as cat woman could of worked but they made the movie into an over sexualized turd.
Eartha Kitt was the 2nd catwoman from the adam west show, she was black, and she was good. so the swap is no big deal to me.

Disregarding the race baiting because it doesn't matter.

Plenty a A list actors have been in chitty movies, plenty of nobodies have been in great movies.

The plot and the script and the cinematography and the acting make a much bigger difference.

Personally, using the same actors after anything more than a trilogy or a cameo is stale and boring.

Let me guess, she'll be a boss. Not just better with a sword, but stronger than the men. No moments where she screws something up. Any mishaps that come her way will be an accompanying man's fault or bad weather. No hero's journey, no genuine personal struggle. Just a boss that can conquer all if everyone on her side were to get out of her way. And she'll be far more serious.

In a way I feel sorry for the actress, since it's nearly guaranteed she'll be another Mary Sue.

What you guys have to consider is Pirates is 20 years old. A 10-year-old isn't going to care - it's just another movie. Unless that 10-year-old has one of you guys as a parent echoing in their ear everyday about race and the "genocide of whites" and whatever else you guys say under your confederate flag tapestry, son.

What is your opinion on intentionally removing and replacing certain actors and characters based solely 1,000% on their gender, sexuality and/or the color of their skin? Are you in favor of this policy or do you align more with alt right extremists who would rather people be considered for any position based on merit?

There is nothing wrong with appealing to a greater audience, or simply giving a role to an actor the producers feel is best for the role without the fear of your type coming unglued because your type is slowly becoming extinct.

The last Pirates movie cost $230M to make, made $170M domestic, and $790M in total. It likely broke even after previous installments made tons of profit.

And Depp is tarnished goods now quite bigly.

Why do you people see race and gender in everything? They've made 6 of these films with the last being the worst received and want to go in a new direction. Have there been any other pirate movies with a white guy leading? No?
