When I came across the listing for the room, I assumed it was an older lady renting it out because the room was tidy and blue - sky blue walls and blue bedspread.
However when I called I realized my mistake. It was actually a man with a very sexy voice and excellent manners that slightly intimidated me.

Why'd the last thread about the Jail/Roommate guy get deleted the second this one appeared?

We had agreed on a meeting the following Friday. I was running late when he called to inform that he was at a restaurant and would be a bit delayed as a result. He arrived in a white car, a slightly overweight balding red head in his forties. He wore sunglasses and gave me a scrutinizing look as he passed by slowly. As he went to park his car in the basement I wondered what the issue was with this affluent looking man , living in a luxurious and new building in an upscale neighborhood with a new white car? He was impressing me, and I tried to find his Achilles heel.

He came to open the gate for me and I saw that I had guessed right. He was about 5ft 8.5
Nothing special happened that day. He quickly showed me around, and we agreed that I would pay on a weekly basis. He was surprised that I didn't move in right away. He mentioned it was short-term and that I should be gone by mid-February.
Oh, yes! He offered to drive me to the train station, but I declined, so he walked with me to the bus stop instead. And the bus was just arriving. I noticed a woman glance back at us as we crossed the street together. She seemed to imagine that we were a couple, and it seemed to put her on alert.
Why?
That's when I started imagining myself being in a relationship with him.

The following week, I settled in. The bed was a very comfortable spring bed with a stack of pillows and a mattress topper. I was exhausted. I fell asleep around 8 p.m. He came home drunk around 2-3 a.m.
I woke up two hours later to start my day.
In the meantime, he also mentioned that I could stay longer, actually.
The notion of "longer" was actually quite vague.
The whole month of cohabitation went by without any particular events. He, by his own admission, was a bit obsessive about the cleanliness of his beautiful glossy glazed white tiles. So, he asked me if I had slippers... because I was walking around in tights. I seemed to annoy him, but it amused me.
Actually, he is asthmatic, so he asked me not to take care of the cleaning. It was quite nice to live with a man who does all the cleaning. He just asked me to vacuum my room once a week.
It was a mystery to me why he never dusted the furniture but was obsessed with every crumb on the floor.
I asked ChatGPT if my roommate was crazy, but Chat replied that everyone has their little quirks that make life charming.
He had other peculiarities. In my room, there was a shelf with at least 150 CDs of music, about a third of which at least was metal. This formed a rather classic contrast with the sky blue decor. He seemed to be a fan of Metallica.
He had left his childhood photo albums, so I didn't resist leafing through them for long.
There were also dozens of comic books.

I thought I had finally found my Superman704.
Then I discovered by looking at the mailboxes that it was a prank and that his name was not Italian or foreign at all.
But finally, in the living room, there were plenty of comic books for older readers, books by Harlan Coben, books about motorcycles, firearms, a drum on a chair, afew mangas, a box of pencils that intrigued me.
Edit :
His first name is Philippe. When I learned his last name, I noticed that it was the name of the street, the name of another person on another mailbox in the building, and the name of a construction company down the street. I imagined he was the black sheep of a wealthy family. I appreciated living in the disorder of a man. Apart from the immaculate white floor, there was a cheerful mess in the living room. I wondered why he liked to leave things lying around everywhere.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I thought he would be an easy catch, but I was mistaken.
I figured we'd end up eating together. Isn't that what roommates do?
Well, I was mistaken.
At the dining table, there was only one vacant seat left. Two out of the three chairs were occupied by bags : comics, a wall calendar from 2019 still unwrapped. There was clutter spread across the table, except for one spot.
The most interesting item was the delivery receipt for a registered letter sent to a lady in the Dominican Republic around January 3rd of this year, about 2-3 days before my visit. Or maybe the exact day of my visit. Her name was more or less Maria Santana.
So, I imagined that as a rebel, he had been seduced by a beautiful stranger.
During the first week, he mentioned several times wanting to get back into shape and start exercising again. ๐ช
Because he had a karate suit hanging on a doorknob, and I asked him about it.
He seemed to enjoy the topic of conversation, so I asked him what belt he had. He was quite proud of his brown belt . He mentioned that he could have gotten the black belt, but it required payment, and it didn't happen.
He often went cycling for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. ๐ดโโ๏ธ
There was also skiing; he mentioned he was going on a ski weekend, that his sister-in-law had a huge chalet somewhere. To keep up, I told him I used to go to La Plagne often as a child.
Because I had seen one or two postcards of La Plagne in the bathroom.
But he told me that La Plagne is huge, and it was his in-laws', I think.
I once asked him if he had ever had roommates, and he said it had been about 2 and a half to 3 years since he had any.
Once, he started talking to himself, probably unaware that I was there. He was debating with himself and arguing that "it" had lasted at most 2 and a half to 3 years.
