The modern art stuff is kind of dumb but old historical artwork is pretty cool. Went to the art museum in Barcelona and it was filled with art from time periods including Roman influence, Visigoth invasion, and Moor invasion. Was neat.jpg

I am an artist to some degree and find art funny.
Certainly there are some extremely talented artist whos skill should be admired.
Then there are the ones who are actually admired by the art world. they are the ones i find funny.
If an artist is really popular anymore it usually has little to do with their talent and a lot to do with the actual persons story or whatever story they make up for them.
Thats what really drives new artists sales. The actual artist doesnt get a lot of money, they are usually under contract with galleries who represent them and give them an agreed amount for their work. You can see artwork selling for millions while the artist has a tough time paying his rent.
If you want to sell stuff, have some back story for yourself and get some haters. Thats what is selling, the artwork is just an add on basically.
The people who are paying ridiculous amounts and acting like this is some sort of masterpiece are the ones i find funny. They cant be honest with themselves because they are so deep into the nonsense. They as well have an angle too because they know they can buy early at a decent price and use the same story to turn it for a big profit down the road so the whole thing is an act. They all know the other is full of it but they all keep going land acting like they arent.
It would be crazy to come out and say your childish looking fancy painting is amateurish and stupid looking. You would just reduce your potential payout.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

I'm an artist. I have a degree in Medical art. A BA, I dated a woman for years who literally ran the Denver art scene. I had done many comic books... and plenty of life drawing / "FINE ART" She only wanted me to do music. I was not the next :"hot artist" after I spent hours with her going to art openings I understood why. It's a very contrived and pretentious scene. They were all doing huge paintings... pandering to the pretentious. I did far better than the most "hot artist" of the time with my music. After a few years,,, her eyes opened, She said "I'm sick of them... they are so pretentious." she was exposed to the dive bar music crew.
She also paid me over 40k to write an album for her.

I’m an amateur, but I can tell you this. I’ve spent months on paintings, carefully working on the right style, colors, etc. And then, on a random day, I’d feel something, and splatter paint all over my work. If paintings are a reflection of what you have to express, I see nothing wrong with a messy one. It might not win any awards, but it’s honest.

Modern art is garbage, abstract art is trash too. Modern artists ran out of ideas and just started creating stupid ideas because everything was already done from past generations

Depends - people who appreciate fine arts are OK with me.
Pretentious kunts who write critique on modern and abstract art are pathetic. They just don't have the balls to say the king's naked.

Depends on what you mean by appreciate-most of us like certain painters like Constable, Lowry, Van Gogh, Picasso etc & nothing wrong with going to art galleries. The pretentious luvvies who stand in front of a painting for hours & supposedly find hidden meanings in them, while making exclamation noises & pulling silly faces of supposed enlightenment & shock are cretins.

Regarding the paintings above, the first is expressionism (Pollock) second is surrealism (Dali). It is not hard to get Surrealism since it is in the name. If you want to draw a dream you will get some absurd stuff like that. It is basically a representation of the unconscious mind. Surrealism blew up basically when Freud and the theories of other psychoanalysts came into the spotlight.
Overall misc. is too retarded on this topic since it tries to compare classical art and modern art by skill.
Classical art died down when the camera came. There was no need anymore for realistic portraits, landscape and such stuff. After that came Surrealism and that abstract stuff which as I mentioned were an image based on most psychological thesis on famous psychoanalyst which were popular at the same time. For example there was a need for what a ''warped'' thought looks like.
Modern art (as in cubism, minimalism) came with the industrial revolution. Things were more affordable, people needed products that are cheap to sell but had identity. It has nothing to do with ''feelings'' of the artists.
Art is business driven by society's needs, always was.

I love Medieval artwork. Gives you a glimpse of what life was like back in those days.

Compare to this painting which is incredible. Amazing rendering, amazing anatomy. Same artist... hard to believe.
