How do you picture yourself if you were living in 1970's?

We made a lot of threads on 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and 2010's...let do one with the 1970's...

I don't think my life would be much different as to what it is today...just less selection of entertainment..and probably less access...but it would still be alcohol, cigarettes, junk food and partying for me....little bit of traveling (back then it was a big deal)...going to beach, going to gym..internet would be replaced by newspaper, magazines and books..so not much has changed??? except for the internet (smartphone and pc falls in same category) and video games...

Prob being a degenerate doing lots of you know, and drinking...would settle down though and have like 2 kids now.

Would've attended lots of concerts, and traveled.

Owning a television or watching television was a big deal back then. Not every household had one...and when you were watching the limited content and limited channels on it, you would really enjoy it..people had designated hours for watching television...

I was born in 1969 so lived through the 70's but as a young child. They were great for me. We played outside pretty much all the time, swam at the pool all summer.

It was like today but with less stuff.

Like op said no internet but you didnt miss it because it hadnt been invented.

It was not however all peace and love and roses. It was just like today, but with less stuff.

If you wanted to look for work, you bought a newspaper and looked in the want ads. Then you physically went down there filled out the application and did an interview.

If you didnt get the job, you went someplace else and did it again.

No, you could not buy a house with one guys income from a shoe store. People had financial struggles just like today. If you could buy a house, why did apartments exist? Most apartments were built back then or even earlier because there was a need for them.

Then there is the hairy bush thing. Women might have trimmed it a bit but it was always hairy.

Yep....but my time was the 50's-60's during the Pleistocene Epoch.

When you popped out in '69 was the year I got out of the military.
How I got so old so quick is still hard for me to reconcile

Yeah I can get an idea people would be outdoors most of the time, because back then forms of entertainment were limited and we had to do most of the things manually which usually required going out. Maybe that's the big difference living back then and now. Internet has made the planet come a long away ahead.

The 70s actually remind me quite a lot of the present. The country was very divided, not just over Vietnam, but also over the direction of society in general. Inflation was high (and makes current inflation look like child's play) and unlike today, the economy was stagnated. Married women had to start working to make ends meet, but that just helped keep real wages suppressed and extended the problem. "All in the Family" is a funny TV show that tends to exaggerate the characters, but it really does capture a lot of the mood at the time, and in real time, not like a documentary looking back.


And we played outside unsupervised all day long.

I recall my 30's pretty well as I was in live bands from 1970 - 1980 so those years were very busy for me.

My 20's?....I have bit more of a struggle recalling those post military years.
