Theres just no point in doing it really.

I used to do it but whats the benefits? All you're really doing is taking pressure onto your lats/upper back which takes away from your shoulders.

Yeah I always liked it. Standing or sitting or on a smith machine...did all versions. I mean it's like a main shoulder exercise, so why not, although I also do military press (which is same movement but it's done on the front)...

Lol it doesn't though. Behind the neck puts some of the the weight onto your lats, upper back, traps etc. You're taking away from your shoulders doing this. Military press is superior for this reason.

It’s one of the best shoulder exercises you can do. Just need to make sure you have properly shoulder mobility. Don’t overdo the weight or go too far down if your shoulder mobility doesn’t allow it.

But yes if you can get badass at BTN presses, you are a chad.

Olympic lifters kick ass at this lift and nobody ever said they lack shoulder development.

lmao wtf is the point of risking this

you think incorporating this into your routine is going to give you massive shoulders?

it's not going to make any difference if you've been doing front ohp, it's just going to increase risk of injury

I can OHP 135 and push press 225, but anything more than the bar behind the neck and it phucks up my shoulders for weeks.

You lack shoulder mobility. Like most people you are far too chest dominant.

It gives me a massive should pump and feels so good. Most people can't do them because they have sh!tty shoulder mobility. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

It’s not a bad exercise. I rep it out at 185x5. Don’t do it often because I got a big ass head and have to lean my head forward so the bar doesn’t tap my skull on the way down/up.

I can struggle 225x3 if I tweak myself up with PWO, but 2 with good form.

I put up a vid of my OHP in the powerlifting thread back last may/june when I hit 225x1 the first time, haven’t made a huge amount of progress since then due to work related injuries

Two plates strict form is legit. I did 245x1 some years back when I was a bit bigger.

Can still do the two plates for one these days though.

I like them.

The safety thing is more an issue of depth. If you look at somebody side on, whilst doing them, you will see that everything moves pretty much in a plane and the shoulders only rotate around one axis, until the bottom of the bar reaches the bottom of the ear.

When the bar goes below the ear, the shoulder rotates around two axes (it starts to rotate forwards) and that's when the injury rate starts to jump.

Some people can go as low as they like, but the majority of people will develop chronic issues if they are routinely going below the ear.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

It’s a great lift, just gotta progress on it slowly and let your body adapt to it

My OHP is 185x3, but behind the neck is ~ 20 lbs less. Side Delts got noticeably bigger when I added these in. I go full depth, basically rest the bar on my traps like a high bar squat before strict pressing it

Retards add weight to the bar way too quickly, get hurt and give BTN presses a bad name

Sweet lift. I'm hesitant to go any higher than 225 rn, or ever, because it felt like my damn spine was getting compressed when I went up to 235x1.
