We have a house in Calabria on the beach since that's where my dads from.

It's a great place to vacation but not live TBH, there's literally nothing to do unless it's summer, and that's when all the northerners come down.

If I had to live in Italy it' probably be somewhere close to Rome or Milano.

To live, as opposed to vacation, I would go with somewhere like lake como. It seems a reasonable place to raise a family.

It's a civilised place that is close enough to Milan for anything you want from a city. The coastal places are not my scene.

Are you actually considering moving to Italy or just curious? If you can speak Spanish, you will pick Italian up very easily.

No, just curious. I really like Italy though as I'm a fan of old Italian movies, so I got interested through that. I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to movie to another country...lol. Not one for traveling either, but looks like a terrific place to visit.

That money problem is consistent with most of the places being mentioned here, including mine...

Also, Amalfi and Positano have horrible traffic because the coastal road from Naples is packed with tourists almost year round...

I'd go North to the Dolomites near Pieve Di Cadore or Cortina d'Ampezzo; have done some hiking there in both Winter and Spring and it is great!

If you went east to west and stayed within 50 miles of the Austrian and Swiss borders, you could probably find somewhere nice that wasn'ttooexpensive.

Have never looked at RE prices but seems like a reasonable approach if you like small towns and have 600 - 750K Euro...
