Nice, yeah it seems to be what I want in a sports car. I would get a Porsche 911 but too expensive.

A 911 is a big step up over just about anything besides the most expensive M-car BMW's. That said if you want to buy used you might be able to get a good deal on something from the 00's.

Yeah there are some that are ranging from 20-40k from that time period with 60k miles. Idk about reliability/maintaince for that.

If they were well maintained they might be a good buy, always look into any notorious issues for whatever model year before you buy, make sure it was addressed or a non-issue.

Cayman only has 2 seats, M2 has a back row.

M2 is more powerful as well, and will get more respect than a Cayman (aka the poor man's porsche). Cayman will drive better, M2 will feel more like a muscle car

but if those don't matter to you...

Problem with the new Cayman is the flat-4. If you can get a flat-6 it's a far more appealing car, but by then might as well try for a 911.

exactly. I'm assuming OP is looking at base models so flat-4 which would be a disappointment compared to the M2. and yeah going into 6 territory means you might as well save a little more for a 911 which will trump the M2.

The flat-6 is far more appealing. There are some used 911s in the 2010-2014 range going for around 40-60k. If there's a good deal, I will get the 911.

All depends on the price. 911s are expensive. Used car rates are horrible right now, can put around 40 down rn

My dad had an old 944 turbo that was a blast. Got me hooked, do you have a porsche? I need a car by the end of the end of the month so I might have to bite the bullet on these rates...

I don't unfortunately, I don't have those kinds of funds yet in my life but one day. My mom has a Cayenne, brother has a 911. Cayenne alone was a dream to drive...then I got to take the 911 for a spin. Definitely a diehard now lol.

If rates are your issue I wouldn't be TOO put off by it. You can always refinance the loan shortly after acquiring the car for a lower rate. Local credit unions are usually much more competitive.

I always thought of the 911 as the ultimate cult car. People who love them seem to swear by them and consider it the best thing since sliced bread, but you really gotta be the type of person who loves them. They definitely aren't for everyone and have their own faults.

Really? Wow, they've really been packing the pounds onto the M2. Still, bet it's light compared to the M4, they basically turned them into a car that feels the way the 6 series used to.

Great engine, but imo i would take the Supra with the b58 if you want a sports car feeling. The current m2 is more of a pony car (similar weight and stats to mustang/camaro)

Tbh I would take a m340i over the m2 at least I'll have the practicality, i know its not in the same boat. But I already have my 911 as my dedicated sport car, I was in the same boat as you but after taking into account depreciation etc on a new car. I found a great deal on a 991.2 911 and bought that instead and havent looked back since

911's do tend to hold their value well, especially when compared to the other German brands like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi where depreciation tends to be terrible.

But yeah, sounds like even the M2 is now in the same class as muscle cars. I liked the earlier M2's better than the new one anyways, they came off as lighter and purer cars. Figures BMW would find a way to screw it up.

It is, for a lot of reasons. Porsches are extremely refined, their flat 6 means lower center of gravity so their handling is better, and they're pretty damn reliable.

I know i said feels more like a muscle car but just meant that comparatively to a porsche...virtually anything with power without porsches handling will feel "muscle"-y lol. But BMW's still drive great. Roommate had an M2 Comp and that thing was on fukin rails, used to whip it from SD to LA regularly. Granted it was a Comp model so different characteristics to the standard M2, but not by much. think street oriented track car vs track oriented street car.

You definitely sound like a Porsche guy lol. Like I said, it's a cultish fanbase brand, the people who love them tend to swear by them. I always preferred something like a Lotus for ultimate lightweight handling, balance, and feel. Balance is where the 911 traditionally lost me, never been a fan of the rear engine layout. Latest ones are practically mid engine though, but then I like the old engines a lot more, back when they were air cooled.
