Is country music still popular in America?
Uk here so I don't know.
Has it been corrupted and shunned by "the powers that be".
Would be a shame for that cultural aspect to diminish.

There is still old school country out there, but you have to go find it. Similar to Metal.

A lot of the country music I listen to are artists featured on the YouTube channel "Western AF".
Shoutouts to Colter Wall and Benjamin Tod. There are some fantastic female singers that have been featured on there too.
Chris Stapleton is about as "mainstream" as I can get.

It's pretty pathetic music though, lyrics made by a 10 yo. Makes sense though as most country folk are simple minded and need stuff dumbed down for them.

Country music has gain major popularity in recent years because it's taking on a more Pop influence.
And you even have Black people doing country now.
Most of it is still annoying music, but it's not as annoying as back in the 80s and 90s when they had that idiotic southern twang accent.
Taylor Swift used to be a country singer but she transitioned into Pop.

It goes in cycles. Every several years it gets popular and the quality goes to crap as artists jump on the bandwagon trying to make a buck while it lasts. The one verse country song isn't a recent invention but the numbers spike every time country gets popular. The "Urban Cowboy" craze is a good example.

I've heard other boyos say that Taylor became a toxic liberal after transitioning to Pop, but what they probably dont' realize is that she's always been toxic, it's just that Pop music is a better outlet for toxicity than country.
