Here is the difference.

People's expectations were so low (in other words he doesn't or does do a Mitch McConnell space out). That anything above him staying somewhat coherent? Because the bar was set so low?

Is a win for him. And the leftist MSM will applaud it.

But if this speech had been done by a 52 year old POTUS, or even more specific Trump?

All we would be hearing was how terrible this SOTU was.

He literally slurred and fast talked his way through the entire thing......like a drunk person.

That is not a good look for the POTUS and it is terrible that this is accepted from some people.

I was listening to it passively in the background. He made a couple of points about immigration blaming the issue on republicans for not passing that bipartisan bill.

but I don't think thats what liberals care about. Biden took the biggest hit in approval when it came to the Israel/Gaza conflict, but the combination of Trump being in favor of supporting Israel too, and biden simple surviving the SOTU last night seemed to rekindle their like for him as every single lefty site seems to be fawning over him again.

The liberals in places like New York (who outnumber republicans by a significant amount) are probably not even bothered by the illegals flooding their state because they live in gated communities.

Did you watch the debates from 2020 with Trump against Biden? He got literally stomped so bad in the first he had to bail on the second (claiming he was sick) and make it a "town hall" so he didn't actually have to debate anyone. Then in the third he made another ass of himself.

I'd actually suggest those debates lost Trump a lot of potential swing voters.

That was Biden who refused to do debate #2 with Trump because he said he was too scared that Trump hadn't recovered well enough from covid yet, and therefor he was scared he could also catch it if he did the #2 debate. Trump wanted to do #2, but Biden was the one who played the covid card.

You have that wrong. The first debate I think lost the election for Trump because he came across as very unprepared. He was winging it and it showed. Plus I am pretty sure he was sick from what I remember.


The second debate was an actual debate and Trump soundly beat Biden. But by then it was too late.

Could be. The stock market went down yesterday. This is the day after Biden's speech. Some have been saying the stock market has been doing better due to Trump doing better in the election polls, with a Trump victory looking good. Maybe Thursday's Biden speech spooked stock market investors.

The economy is doing poorly under Biden. Many feel the economy would do much better under Trump. A better economy means a better stock market.
