What if UFC didn’t have weight classes?

Will the heaviest fighters dominate the sport?

Yes lol

The top 15 would be majority heavyweights with a few light heavyweights. I don't even think a single middleweight would crack the list

Alex Peraira was a middleweight lol. J/k, heavyweights would probably take 2 bantams at the same time. You'd need to put them in a cage though, otherwise lighter weight classes would run around until hw's are exhausted and then finish them via. rnc

the smallest guys are too small, but the medium guys, say welterweights would dominate

gsp would simply be too fast for someone like ngannou

i would like to see khabib vs jon jones. Jones obv has the reach/striking advantage, but khabib could win with a sub if he plays his cards right

Nah... Khabib is a wrestler, where weight matters the most. Jones is just way too big and also an elite wrestler who can grapple with him.

If anything, small strikers with elite cardio can stand a chance against heavyweights with no stamina that just go for KOs right away. Run around, tire them out and carefully place shots for a decision win.

Bro.. why do you think they have weight classes?

Bro…

I have seen top middle weights spar with average heavyweights in actual MMA gyms. Please bro… please don’t say stuff like this.

Has no one in here done martial arts in a dojo with someone completely smaller and bigger than them? I have done both, yes technique is very important, but brute strength and leverage with mass can rip through a lot of it. The smaller person would have to be agile as fukk and slowly pick them apart, which could get boring. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

Big guys tend to gas out a lot quicker. Their physiology is different. Plus if youre good at fighting, that's going to give you an advantage. In other words, skills can negate what is generally an advantage(weight)

Lol. Please remember that weight classes exist… that means someone made them… which means there was a reason for making them… please use your brain…

Wait, lets git something straight. I'm saying that a Khabib like fighter would win a UFC no weight class tournament. I'm NOT saying that he would hold the spot every tournament. That said, I still feel like middle class would come out on top if there were no weight classes.

First few ufcs had none
It was closer to a real fight situation than todays scene with rules, rounds, and weight classes. A competitive combat sport but just saying most of remember the first few ufcs.

Pride had some open weight tournaments iirc

I loved the gran prix 2005

The original UFC did not have weight classes, and they were all won by a not lifting 5'8 inch BJJ guy.
Then they changed the rules because he would just lay down on the ground and it was boring as heck.
So once they made the ref break up the boring ground stuff, they needed weight classes.

Size does matter less in MMA since there are so many variables, but the old rule is still generally true. A good big man will beat a good small man.

There used to be no weight classes and Royce Gracie came out on top....I think he weighed less than 180 lbs
