Really? Why? They are fun and all but you cant really do anything with them accept ride around town or back roads. You really shouldnt go on the highway with one. Its too dangerous. Nobody should be on the highway if your top speed is 75mph. They are kinda cool and you can do all kinds of mods but i wouldnt buy one. You get it new or what? You pay $4000 new?

It's really just all about the experience, it's the rider's alternative to a scooter really.Well that is exactly what I got it for, just going around town and riding the local backroads. I wouldn't even consider it freeway worthy, that's basically a death sentence. Heck even my old DRZ 400SM could barely keep up with freeway traffic most of the time, which was my first bike way back in college.

As I said above, there are really just the rider's alternative to a scooter. On the new ones like I got you have a 5 speed manual transmission and it's just a lot of fun, way more fun than you would ever have on some scooter with a CVT. I think to understand it's appeal you gotta watch that Fiat Panda car review that James May did. It's basically the motorcycle version of that. It's fun everywhere because you are always pushing it everywhere. Vehicles are at their most fun when you're opening them up and pushing their capabilities, and like that Fiat Panda, you're basically always doing that with a Grom everywhere you go. The sort of riding that would be boring on a bigger bike can be thrilling, it makes just cruising around town in places with low speed limits a fun and engaging experience.

yeah i get it.they are fun and have a cult following.I wont make fun or bash anyone that just wants to ride. I had a Baja Warrior pitbike with a 212cc Predator motor that was fun as hell so i get it. If i was gonna get a Honda id get a 650 Rebel. If i want something light and fun id get a 250 ninja at the bare minimum. Enjoy your bike. Maybe ill get a chinese Grom clone one day

Thanks bro! Yeah they definitely aren't for everyone, it's the sort of thing where you either understand it's appeal and want one or you don't. For most people something like a 250 - 500cc full sized motorcycle would make a lot more sense, and if I actually needed it for transportation I would have honestly gone for something like that instead. It's basically just a fun little toy for me.

The most fun you can have on those things is modding it and doing crazy wheelies in parking lots and stuff. I think thats what most people do who buy them. If i was gonna do the little 125cc thing id get a Honda Monkey. They brought those things back not long ago. Cant do tricks on them but they are better made than the Grom. And more expensive too. Freaking crazy how expensive they are. For $4500 i could get a beast of a used bike. Balls to the wall

The Monkey is cool but it's more for people who want something that looks like a mini retro bike. I prefer the look of the Grom to be honest. After fees the Monkey is also kinda stupidly expensive for what it is.

How big/tall are you? No e-stats please.

I've thought about getting one to go back and forth to and from work on (3.1 mile drive one way, top road speed ~50mph on a mixed urban-rural road without too much traffic). TX so weather would permit for ~85% of the year. Great mpg, etc.

I'm concerned about ergonomics and just overall experience. I'm no e-stat a bit over 6'1" barefoot, and cutting down to ~212-215 range, so not fukking massive but I'm no noodle-boy...

6' tall, just over 200. Feels great. I used to ride a Suzuki DRZ and a Ducati Hypermotard and I find it very comfortable, surprisingly so considering it's size. Love the feel of it.Thanks bro! Yeah, I wanted something like a scooter to cruise around in and the Grom is just so much cooler looking and far more engaging to drive. The Ruckus and Navi are pretty cool though for cheaper alternatives, but they lack the motorcycle like feel, riding more like scooters.

It's a fun toy. Better than any e-bike for commuting. I'd imagine you could get a set of knobbies and do some light trail riding. It's so small and light you could easily pack it in a truck or suv and take camping or to a tourist spot where its hard to get around in a car.

Monkey is more for the people who want to do light trail riding. I'd get a different bike if I was interested in that though, something with bigger wheels and better ground clearance.

But yeah, I was actually looking at e-bikes before this as well, and after seeing the price many are selling for I concluded they're stupid. I prefer the electric longboards anyways, got one and they're pretty cheap.

I keep thinking about buying one but decide against it every time.

Also im a manlet and i would look more like a manlet riding a little bike like that. Id be known as the manlet on the manlet bike. No way man. Id get a chinese Grom clone for like $1200 bucks and do wheelies and mod it and beat it to hell though

Good thing about that is how you won't feel bad for trashing it, those Chinese bikes are pretty much disposable. Buy em cheap, ride em to death, chuck it out in the end.

I had a 400 dual sport so I know what that's all about, and honestly, with a bike like that, I wouldn't want anything smaller than the 400 I had.
