First ever AI software engineer

This is wild…. Why pay a person to do this job when humans complain, need to be paid, want time off of doing the work, lazy etc.

Why have a human do it when you can have AI do it for you for free 24/7?

AI is going to change up every aspect of our lives. Companies are going to look to this and most jobs are going away.

it's a scam, like 3d or self driving.

i work in tech. No one is being let go cuz of "ai". AI cannot access your companys' internal data and create stuff, make decisions or analyze what you need.

Hey AI - tell us why our database is slow.

crickets.

Hey AI - create a netflix clone

crickets.

Hey AI - go through our source code and find why this page crashes

crickets.

So no. No one's worried, it's all fad. Get your 10 jabs too cuz "it's all about the jab man".

People thought the internet was a fad. People are already having AI solve complex problems and AI is in its beginning staging m. At this already insane rate, imagine 10 years from now.

My thoughts exactly. His post was pure cope.

Thinking your tech job is not going to be taken over by AI is such a weird take. Complete delusion.

Educate me, brah. What is this "insane rate" of improvement? GPT3 was released in 2020. Since then we've had....ummmm....GPT 4 and a couple other LLM chatbots.

I'd be happy if this worked:

"Find all synchronous methods and replace them with their asynchronous counterparts".

This.

The layoffs are mostly due to high interest rates, overhiring, and greedy CEOs wanting to bump stock prices

All the AI simps really need to put on their thinking cap and mull this one over.

If creating software was imminently going to become as easy as typing an idea into a chat box, wouldn't all software becomecompletely worthlessand all software companies along with it?

Only programmers are at risk and not every single software CEO, even though anyone who can type can create software at will?

These AI marketing scams are absolutely clowning on people who don't understand AI. Reminds of those commercials for sunglasses that let you "See in HD".

It can't do those things....yet. Give it time. A lot of people in biotech and healthcare (my sectors) aren't worried about Ai, because there are too many regulations regarding the release of proprietary R&D and patient information and just giving that information to some AI platform to make a job moderately easier is a grey area. Eventually there will be Localized and secure AI systems that can be used in information sensitive fields.

As for IT jobs, AI is more of a tool to assist them, but over time even the typewriter was phased out for the computer.... but I think we've got a while (about a decade) before that becomes a real problem.

Op there's very hard working people that get laid off everyday. Unless you're a 160 IQ genius, you can be on the chopping block.

Tell me you don't know what AI is without telling me.

People are already saying it's plateaued, because the models are feeding off of AI generated content.

and you don't think they'll be able to overcome those boundaries? I remember people saying there was no reason to ever have an operating system better than Windows 95, and look where we are now...

When the first PC was invented in 1974 typewriter manufacturers exhibited the same hubris.

CEO of Nvidia came out and literally said: With AI, no one will need to know how to code.. Congrats on learning a skill that will not required in less than 6 years. Couldn't even make a full 50 year career off that skill.

I'm a data scientist.

The boundaries are hardware related. Current computer technology today is what makes true "AI" impossible. Quantum computers may be able to overcome those boundaries but that's decades away. If you wanted true AI that everyone is afraid of or see in the movies, it would require algorithms that would literally take centuries to complete with current computer hardware.

pretty bold of you to assume AI isn't slaving away in the background already to design these algorithms and streamline them ASAP
