Sony Hits Pause on PSVR2 Production as Unsold Inventory Piles Up (RIP SONYCELS)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ntory-piles-up
Sony Group Corp. has paused production of its PSVR2 headset until it clears a backlog of unsold units, according to people familiar with its plans, adding to doubts about the appeal of virtual reality gadgets.
It over.

Yeah, it was clearly going to be a failure before it even came out.

Probably no psvr3.

Just a 3rd party software publisher bro, can't expect their hardware to do that well.

I mean exclusivity aside, the PSVR2 was one retarded choice after the other

- High Price point (Higher than PS5)
- No first party games other than Horizon
- Hardly any games
- No backwards compatibility rendering your old library useless (This is probably my biggest gripe)

I think the backwards compatibility was most people's gripe.

That was a niche device at best, and they spit in the face of all the people who enjoyed psvr1.

Yep.

I bought it for fun and honestly, the device has potential but sony squandered. Like what you and I mentioned before, the BC part killed it for me ... I remember wanting to try out some older games that I had but didnt play and I got with a message telling it's not compatible or to spend money to buy the version that they made for psvr2 ... noped out after that.

Sony cant even secure Alyx VR for it nor do they want to offer it on PC (yet) so that even makes my foray into VR PC gaming completely moot. Hopefully the PC connectivity rumors are true because then that'd actually breathe some life into the device and sony might actually see bigger sales.

They’re supposedly working on PC compatibility with a projection to have it available by end of the year. That would go a LONG way towards moving those unsold units. As a VR headset it’s legit as fukk, it is just being massively underutilized at the moment. Making it work with PCs fixes pretty much all of that.

Yep, the specs of psvr2 are incredible. I would have gotten one for my pc on launch if it wasn't locked down to the PS5.

PSVR2 has tons of games now. It's just that most of those were already on PCVR or just rushed out the door shovelware.

GT7 and RE4 VR is really the only reason to get PSVR2. There are lots of games they COULD covert to VR but that comes down to the third party developers.

They should've just sold it as a GT7 peripheral, that's the only reason anyone bought one

PSVR2 has never been a product for smart people.
