95% effective*

Preventing COVID =\= preventing infection (the D in COVID stands for disease). It is entirely accurate to say that the early vaccine clinical trial data demonstrated high effectiveness at preventing COVID, defined clearly in the outcomes as symptomatic disease.

More broadly, the mRNA vaccines have been remarkably effective at reducing severe disease. They also significantly reduce the risk of infection for all variants, although protection waned more readily with Omicron.

Here’s a meta analysis of more than 80 studies assessing long term effectiveness for different variants and outcomes.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...015-2/fulltext

“For infections caused by any SARS-CoV-2 strain, vaccine effectiveness for the primary series reduced from 83% (95% CI 80–86) at baseline (14–42 days) to 62% (53–69) by 112–139 days. Vaccine effectiveness at baseline was 92% (88–94) for hospitalisations and 91% (85–95) for mortality, and reduced to 79% (65–87) at 224–251 days for hospitalisations and 86% (73–93) at 168–195 days for mortality. Estimated vaccine effectiveness was lower for the omicron variant for infections, hospitalisations, and mortality at baseline compared with that of other variants, but subsequent reductions occurred at a similar rate across variants. For booster doses, which covered mostly omicron studies, vaccine effectiveness at baseline was 70% (56–80) against infections and 89% (82–93) against hospitalisations, and reduced to 43% (14–62) against infections and 71% (51–83) against hospitalisations at 112 days or later.”

Here’s another meta analysis assessing effectiveness for different outcomes and different variants (pre omicron) at 6 months. While protection against infection waned significantly, the risk was still significantly reduced compared to unvaccinated.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...152-0/fulltext

And there is evidence for reduction in transmission as well.

It's intellectually honest to ignore the first paragraph?

The wildest thing of all is that people who consider themselves pro-vaccine are supportive of the so called covid vaccine. If we had extended the same low standards to the really transformational vaccines that made such a big difference to humanity then they never would have been made so effective, never would have made a difference and nobody would be vaccinating anybody now.

If the smallpox vaccine had on average slightly reduced the severity of smallpox for elderly patients if they had received it in a narrow time window but otherwise made no difference then smallpox would still be a major affliction to the world.

Believing in vaccines should mean having high standards for them and not allowing companies to sell sub par products for vast profits without being held to any standard at all.

What's even worse is that the risk of myocarditis was higher with the smallpox vaccine than with covid vaccines

Existence of vaccines doesn't require belief.

Both terms are correct. One is referring to the individual level and the other to the mean effect. Infection would need to be prevented in some individuals if the risk across the cohort is reduced. A seatbelt can prevent someone from dying in a car crash. Seatbelts reduce the risk of dying in a car crash. Both statements are true.

I do see your point.

I think the problem is how the term was used in mass media, as it was portrayed as "will prevent", not "can prevent".

That is not the case at all ( nor is it with any other vaccine ).

While it's disappointing effectiveness was reduced beyond the initial variant, I still think the vaccines helped. I also think relying on vaccines alone was a mistake.
Relying on vaccines alone was a mistake.

What else should have been done, since you were allegedly against the mandates, restrictions and lockdowns.

So in 2020, I shouldn't have gone to numerous BBQ'S and gatherings? And when I did, I should have masked up?

We're the BBQ's in poorly ventilated indoor spaces?

Were you infectious?

Were you concerned with transmitting or getting COVID?

Yes, and it worked for many countries that FOLLOWED THE GUIDELINES. It's common sense.

Divorce yourself from all politics for a second. A dangerous airborne respiratory virus is spreading among the population. What is the gameplan?

It is amusing that the position of so many here is literally procovid. As in, they denied covid existed, refused to mask, refused to comply with distancing guidelines, and refused a vaccine. It's impressive how hard you guys worked to side with the virus. I call it the covid lobby. You are so shamelessly pro virus that it is hilarious.
Oh Winnie, get outside for once.

By March 2020 we knew everyone across the world would catch the Wuhan virus. Infant, nursing home and everyone in between. A basic historical fact.

EVERY single guideline was for the sole purpose of slowing the spread a little bit. You and grandma would get infected for the first time in July instead of April., others in August instead of June. Nothing more. So your mental derangement and fhaggy finger wagging is mute.

imagine still thinking Covid was serious and not a scam.

BRB a "pandemic" so dangerous that you can gather in the streets by the millions and "protest" for St. Floyd, but if you try to hang out with friends or run your business you will die!!

Average age of "Covid death" was older than average life expectancy.

Imagine thinking governments that start wars based on lies to enrich themselves cared sooooo much about you that they had to enforce restrictions to "save you". LMAO!

Really? how do you know? cause the government told you so?

Tuberculosis kills millions every year...no fuks given because the TV man didn't tell you to care.

And as I said, vast majority of "deaths" were from people that were on the verge of death anyways.

If it was so dangerous how were people converging together like they were recreating Woodstock?

Anyone who was still taking it serious after the Summer of love was/is straight up brain dead.

Excess deaths from the RNA shots far outweigh the excess deaths from the virus. That will be the reality for at least another decade. That doesn't even include the FACT (per the American Health Association in August 2020) that the overreactions to Covid would kill more than the virus itself.

After falling or being flat for almost 30 years cancer death rates jumped up in 2021, then again in 2022. And not by a negligible amount. We're talking 5x the rate increases that could be explained by off chance. IGG4. Theorized to be okay to increase high levels continually, but through persistent elevation via the shots instead is causing autoimmune disorders and cancer to rise at levels that don't have another plausible explanation.

Stay away from the topic of health. Even if you pretend to know a bit about biology it doesn't apply to how that translates into reactions of human physiology.

No bodies in the street though. If it's such a scary and existential crisis, how did people feel comfortable enough to get together in mass like that? During the Spanish flu people were going as far into the country side as possible to get away from the disease.

Covid was such a pathetic virus that for every 1 covid death there were around ~60-70 births. Strong "crisis"
