This is metal

I’ve seen some threads lately claiming bands like Slipknot and TOOL as being metal, and taking umbrage when I say they’re not metal. Heavy guitars and aggressive drums and vocals do not a metal band make. I’m not knocking those bands. They’re great bands. But they’re not metal.

This is more in the spirit of metal. Metal is hard to define, but I feel this encapsulates the difference between heaviness and metal. True metal has more in common with this piece than the cosmetic similarities it shares with hard rock.

Tool and Slipknot are metal, so are Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Exodus etc. But when I listen to metal now I want somethingreallyeffin' heavy. 6 and even 7 string guitars won't cut it anymore. Your thoughts on this, OP?:

Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Sounds like a cross between deathcore and dubstep. Not metal.

And Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Exodus are definitely Metal. Don’t know why you’re comparing them to TOOL, Slipknot, and whatever that sh*t was.
