Why are athlete's salaries shown to the public?

Kinda a weird concept

You won't see a random joe on the street and know his salary

Even artists salaries aren't public info

Why athletes tho?

actually a good question ive never considered. those are all private organizations. NFL especially ...no one even knows how much they make. I think their commissioner gets paid $50M a YEAR btw.

i can only speculate that the teams are sharing the data to let fans know they are acquiring and trying to win vs. keeping it quiet and losing all the time. plus any publicity is good publicity. so even if people talk about X players salary being too high cuz he sucks...good for the team.

Why should they be confidential?
It's makes more better speculation when you know what they're being paid

And league minimums etc have been established...so it's not like they secretly paying a guy peanuts compared to the next etc

A lot of those leagues have salary caps and luxury taxes to keep an even field (so that small-market teams have a chance). having salaries public creates transparency

how many times do you see a quarterback take a pay cut so they can bring some new talent onto the team?
i guess it makes the fans more engaged which is what a team needs.

You can find out what every NFL player makes by searching name - contract on Google.

Also holds the player accountable. They're gonna get chit if they don't play up to what they are paid

I assume it has something to do with the bargaining. If you think you're the best in the league you want to be paid like you're the best.

Right because they expect the 3rd string quarter back to play as well as mahomes with his 50 million salary

There's role players in sports , and some get paid less.

I think it's not just relevant to who cuts the check.

if you're a 3rd stringer, nobody is expecting you to be as good as the starting qb

you don't need to know salaries to know this it's just common sense

Yeah but the point is you'd need to know their salary to see how good they are dollar for dollar

Hard to analysis a guys play when you don't know how much the salary is .

The same reason they publicize the highest paid entertainers and musicians: part of the plot to control the masses.

When people are aware of just how much celebs earn compared to the average person it drives celebrity worship. This worship has been exploited by businesses with great success in product endorsements. However, product endorsements are trivial compared to action endorsements like using the NFL stars to push Nation Anthem Kneeling protests or using celebs in political attacks, or push whatever agenda the elites wish.
