Do you like keeping cash in hand instead of a bank?

Imagine keeping all the cash to yourself (doesn't have to be too much)...insteas of visiting banks every now and then...also you never know how banks can erase your wealth for some reason...

Put $50 of various bills in every vehicle (in case power outage and you need gas or whatever)

I would imagine some feel this way because in times of dire emergency......the price of essentials can basically be priced at whatever the person holding that good says its worth.
Thats why I carry some cash and ammo in the safe.

When hurricane sandy left me without power for 2 weeks there was no escaping. Hotels everywhere were filled, my job was still open though very lenient about attendance, I had a dog and flooding/damaged house that I needed to take care of.

Every store was cash only for a while. Banks had stupid lines of people trying to use the atm for cash.

I was working at Costco at the time and people would show up and stand out front of the building and offer cash to anyone who was able to actually buy a generator before they sold out. Saw a dude sell the one he bought to another dude who was just waiting, he literally paid the dude double for it.

Exactly bro, that chit was a hot ass mess. I paid Servpro 5k to gut, dry (dehumidify) and treat the studs. Right after that I was at the lumber yard buying drywall, mud, screws and primer. Had to keep the gas cans filled for the generator daily.

That made my mind up to invest in a whole home generator that runs off the homes natural gas supply. Can also connect external LP.

Katrina and sandy were not the same


I was not at risk of dying. We didn't have an evacuate order. We had severe flooding and storms, and a metric ton of damage. If I left my house would have been totally flooded and destroyed. I stayed and pumped water out of the basement and saved my home and my belongings.


Again where would I escape to? No hotels in the area, no family in my state, friends are all in the same situation as me, no power.

Where am I going? Just driving aimlessly in a state where it takes 5 hours of waiting to get gas? Oh wait, we could only get gas on the days they called out license plate numbers, because the lines were so bad the gov had to step in and mandate our gas.

Again I don't expect you to understand if you haven't been through it. You can't just run away unless it's life or death. For me it wasn't life or death, but leaving would have absolutely ensured my home was lost or severely damaged.

Having cash on me just ensured I was able to get the things I needed and didn't have to sit in line at the atm for hours, just to go sit in the gas line for hours.

Natural disasters are not mad max scenarios. Understand the world is very much still functioning as normal. In the event of a power outage. Which can literally be from hurricanes, tornado, blizzards, rain/flooding, etc. Its best to have cash. You'll only be able to make purchases from stores/gas stations with cash.

Someone with a job like Redfish is likely staying home and will still be working in that kind of event. Same as me. I don't evacuate. I stay home and work lots of overtime and make ****loads of money.


A good natural disaster can 2x, 3x or even 4x your income for the year. Or depending on what kind of small business you own/how resourceful you are. Turn you into a multi millionaire. Any time there is mass devastation and destruction. There are about to be millions (if not hundreds of millions) of dollars floating around the local economy.


When there is mass devastation and despair. And the plebs are losing everything. Is the perfect time to capitalize. If you happen to have 50-100K on hand. It can also be very useful when people are panic selling stuff at very discounted prices because they are desperate for cash.

Nobody is talking about mad max, bugging in, or zombies. Most natural disasters are relatively short lived. And do not include total devastation of your home/community.

If its something dangerous you leave. And as soon as its over you return & rebuild your home and community. Depending on what kind of resources/job you have. Sometimes you make a ****load of money in said disaster zone as its being rebuilt.






Hurricane Katrina paid for my college. And allowed me to chill for four years while I went to school. And I graduated with a ****load of cash still on hand. A few smaller storms not worth noting allowed me to put a juicy down-payment down to build a house and stack my portfolio. Covid 4xed my net worth and pushed my retirement up by years. Etc.


We get anymore 'big' and devastating storms hit Louisiana. I'm taking an early retirement from my job (only 37 now) Spending a year or two getting my hands on some of the government contracts and scooping up real estate. And I'm done working for life.



But go ahead and 'bug out' of the disaster zone and go live in a hotel.

Pick your own syntax then if we're going to "AKSHUALLY"
They want everyone to leave. Then they dish out millions/hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for people to come in and haul the rubble out. Repair infrastructure. Provide housing/food/supplies to workers and misplaced residents. Etc. When people are broke and desperate. They tend to sell luxury items and sometimes homes/properties for cheap. Especially if you have cash. The worse the disaster. The more opportunity in it. From buying stuff up from plebs to catching bits of the government contracts.
