Fallout 76 seeing renewed success after TV show hype

Fallout fever continues to grip the world, with Fallout 4, New Vegas, and Fallout 76 all seeing a resurgence in popularity, and the latter breaking its own concurrent user record on Steam years after it first released.

As noted in SteamDB, the 2018 action RPG – which debuted on Steam in 2020 – has hit 66,045 simultaneous players on Steam, the most concurrent users the game has ever had.

Now if only Microsoft would do the right thing and take it out of Bethesda's hands and give it to a more competent studio. It's pretty retarded that we probably wait to wait till after 2030 to get a new Fallout game, since Bethesda is not gonna release anything Fallout related until they're done with Elder Scrolls.

Obsidian and Inxile is part of the family now.

Todd Howard did an interview with the Kinda Funny Games team yesterday I think where he said he's open to letting other teams work on Fallout, so you may very well get your wish. I personally hope they do, as I'd like another Fallout game.

God I hope so.

But that ship may have sailed too, Inxile is busy with that bioshock game, Obsidian is working on outerwilds 2.

If we're hopeful, perhaps a new Fallout game by 2028 could be a possibility if they decide to let someone else do it.

New Vegas also hit a Steam ATH after the show's release, so maybe there's hope.

Just keep that idiot Pagliarulo - and Todd, fuk that gremlin - off the project, the man can't write to save his life. They would need to hire competent writers who also understand that Fallout is a setting, not a theme and they would also have to revert the game into an RPG, not whatever FO4 was supposed to be.

I've been playing FO76 a bit. Never played it before due to how bad the game was but it's a lot better now, very similar to FO4.

It's not a "good" game by any means though. It has the same narrative problems as FO4 (even more so) and is a lot more focused on events and daily quests. The game is a LOT more grindy (how else do they keep you coming back to live service).

Haven't played it yet. Prefer to play on console but I'm not paying a subscription to play a game I intend to play solo.

Shame that for such a popular series there's really only 2 entries that are still fun to play today: FO3 and FNV.

The only other company they would let do it is Obsidian, and while they did New Vegas, their recent efforts with The Outer Worlds (which was just ok, nothing special) and Avowed (looks just like Outer Worlds with a fantasy skin and meh) might give Bethesda pause

I've got a few thoughts on this.

I've played FO76 a lot, because I got it free. In reality, there is no actual main storyline. You get a short series of quests that contradict the rest of the universe. These quests explain the appearance of a new resource, a crafting material. This crafting material is necessary for getting the best armors, and is available from the start of the game. In short, you read about the plot instead of experiencing it. FO76 never changes.

My point is, FO76 is for people familiar with universe looking to explore the mechanics of fallout in a semi MMO environment who can also forgive the lack of main story quality and completely ignore the new story elements it introduces. Also nuking someone for taking your power plant is A++. Also, no one really does that because the community has been great to each other and very constructive. Players have created their own entertainment in this universe. Now imagine a noob mainstream player joining....All the ridiculous flaws of FO76 will turn away most players.

Its not a game for people new to the universe. It is novel yet grinding. The difficulty curve punishes new players, while they witness higher level players level up even faster than a lvl 10 player because they're aware of exploits. In some ways, its not that different from other ARPGS, but it lacks a solid end game to retain anyone. I log in, I farm ammo, I exploit an XP build, I log out. Rinse, repeat. I get nothing for it but a stronger and stronger character that I have nothing to do with. Its not like Diablo where you can keep going higher in difficulty to get better loot. You basically have the best of everything, and its not that great, by rolling for stats at vendors.

It has a chit story, and no real endgame. The DLCs are nice. I really like the added cryptids...that was a solid addition to the fallout universe. But my fear is that the best parts of FO76 are exactly what mainstream gamers hate, so its only a matter of time before FO76 becomes a reskinned FPS with skins for sale. They've been trying hard to push it in that direction but the community rejected it.

tl:dr
fo76 is decent now so fuk off normies

Might as well. Can't say that I expect anything good from this franchise ever again, it's just going to be all about milking 76 and the prior games for now on along with the TV show.

ESO is a very boring game for people who love to grind IME. FO76 is at least action oriented. That's a good split to catch both camps.
