Anyone else here trying to escape the rat race?
What's your current exit plan to escape the wage slaving 9-5
Start your own business? Be your own boss? pursue one of your hobbies until it becomes your job?
Or is it already over for you and this is what it comes down to, wage slave and make your employer rich whilst you have 2 days off every week to dread doing it over and over again for the next 40 odd years.

My business has now made enough money for me to quit my job but a weird thing happened
Once I was no longer relying on my job for income, it became way more enjoyable. I already had my hand-picked team, set my own hours and worked remotely when I wanted.
But now that I’m actively trying to get a golden handshake I just tell people what I think with no sugarcoating, reject work that I’m not interested in and delegate everything else. Given the size of the annual income and the lack of any stress the effort to reward ratio just won’t let me quit.

I wish I knew how. I tried starting an e-commerce business in my early 20s. I put every last penny I saved working a minimum wage call center job, cashed out my 401(k) and launched a white label product on Amazon FBA. It did alright, but expenses (importing, running ads, returns, etc.) were more than double what I anticipated, which really ate into those margins. I eventually had the #5 best selling product in my sub-category, however it wasn’t enough to supplement my wagie income. At that point we were at the height of the supply chain crisis and I couldn’t replenish inventory through my supplier, nor could I really afford to, so I just shut down.
Now I’m working a chitty office job, feeling miserable AF every day of my life. My soul has been crushed to the point where even though I still desperately want to escape the rat race, I just don’t know where to begin.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately OP. I make really good money in my corporate job but I don't want to do it forever either. I know a lot of professionals who low key hate what they do, including more "prestigious" careers like doctor and lawyer. It just seems like no matter what one does we have to work harder and harder for diminishing returns, and I think inflation and government spending are going to continue to make things tougher for most people. I really feel bad for Gen Z.

Live below means
Have a strong 40%+ savings rate
Have enough to reach financial independence at 45 and easily retire by early 50s
During this am trying to stand up businesses on the side that aren't very capital intensive. I enjoy working and being active, but hate working for noseburg, so if I create a rental business for example I dont think i would mind working it for years to come
we shall see boyos. On track now but only early 30s

I sorta boxed myself in and probably won't escape, if I did it'd be through my own business though.

I've been contemplating sales still. If I found another typical office job, I'd make $75k at most and that's not really cutting it.
I think if I made enough money to purchase some properties I could slumlordMAXX or airbnbMAXX

When I started my Amazon business I actually heard words of support. One of my friends who I studied entrepreneurship with convinced me we would be financially free by 25 (JFL). He went the drop shipping route. I went the FBA route. Of us failed and ended by back on the hamster wheel.

I think too many influencers make it seem like its easy to create a business and skip the 9-5. Far more people fail then succeed. And the people that succeed are working harder/longer then people realize to make it happen. And if you fail, you are set behind even further.
I chose a different strategy:
-Law Enforcement job with a pension. Can retire at 'any age' after 25 years of service.
-Invest in the stock market on my own. Not a 401K or ROTH or any kind of retirement account. A portfolio I control myself. And I can draw from whenever I want.
-Speculate/trade crypto.
I'm on track to be retired and on chill mode in my 40s. I'm under no illusions. Its a 25 year run involving working more then 40h per week a lot of the time. It can be hard/stressful at times. I don't 'work for myself' or have that kind of freedom. I don't and won't have lambo money. But freedom is right around the corner. About 9-10 more years for me and its chill mode. I'm done with work 'forever'.
I also know people that have done a similar route in the military. Join up at 18. Choose a decent 'career' in the military (not infantry or something that's going to get you fukked up). Do 20. Retire at 38. Then work part time or just live off pension/investments.

Yea it takes minimum 12-24 months to start turning a profit in private label
You have lazy ass mindset of looking for the route of least resistance. There is no way ur gonna compete with Chinese competitors, aggregators with billions, european sellers, etc.
News flash, the easiest route is right there where you are sitting: your cubicle

38 years old, and I've been making six figs since two years ago. I'm estimating to "retire" by 50. By retire, I mean I might live frugally in a double wide or cabin in a coldcel area, but realistically I'll be living off of dividends and probably working part time at an auto parts store or auto repair shop. Maybe run a storage facility or be a landlord. Running a storage facility sounds like the best option.

If you look at my net worth fluctuation over time, it probably looks akin to gambling... but stock options is my way.
I'm in my late 20s, I already have $100k in Roth retirement accounts, I never touch it or play with it, I pretend it doesn't exist. No debts. Paid off car. Rentcel. Earlier in the year I had around $140k on top of that, about $60k of that was investment growth / stock options trading. Unfortunately the market hasn't exactly done what I was predicting, and I'm currently at around $85k srs, which is close to break-even on "money put into market versus profit", but I have belief that I can get to $125k-150k by early-mid June if I hold strong with my positions.
My answer to try to escape the rat race is honestly to stay with longish (4-6 months) expiry stock options. Buying calls after a significant dip on solid companies that "are guaranteed" to go up long term. This works until it doesn't, and maybe works again after. But it feels way better than gambling since... in roulette for example you have a (slightly below) 50% chance to double your money in a single moment, then poof it's gone or doubled. Options though, you choose your expiries, you choose if you want to sell for slight profit vs risking for more, you choose if you want to accept a slight loss vs risking, at every second of every trading day.
My job's responsibilities have gone upwards dramatically in the last year or so. I've had to do chit (presentations on a stage and such) that would make me throw up if I were younger. I view my net worth, even retirement if it comes down to it (10% penalty on post-tax retirement is the only downfall), as a scapegoat if I decide that I psychologically can't stomach this chit anymore. But in the interim I'm hoping to basically multiply my net worth by and large, to enable the ability for retirement prior to age 40. Even if I had enough to retire, I wouldn't necessarily quit working, but I'd feel at peace knowing that I can.
My CoL is about $3k/mo... maybe $4k/mo if I'm a little extra spendy and holidays and chit. So I view the current $85k as about 2 years worth of figuring my life out if I ever quit or got fired. Which I think is plenty for my industry to get another job, and would be a very welcomed K-12-esque lengthy vacation between jobs.
