If not rich you shouldn't be going to Disney/Universal

One day at Universal probably set me back $1,200.

You should be wealthy if you want to visit places like this. All I hear is a sucking sound from this city trying to suck all the money out of your pockets.

Trex Cafe = $130 for 3 people.
Universal admission = $700-800
Harry Potter wand = $75
Eating at Universal = $150-200

Place is crazy.

If you're over 12 yo you should not be going to Disney World at all.

Place is horribly overpriced and the rides are not that thrilling to say the least. Rather go to a Six Flags
rumpler of stiltskins

I actually agree. They say a family of 4 nights/3 days at Disney World trip runs a family of 4 about $5k, IF they do it budget and economy style. So you're ultimately looking at well over $1k /day on entertainment. That's not even including flights/driving costs. Such an insane amount of money to spend to see an amusement park just because it's Disney themed.

I'd apply this to most vacation trips, tbh. Can't tell ya how many chronically broke people I've known in my life who love to bust the bank wide open on multiple vacation trips a year, sometimes really expensive stuff like overseas trips. Nothing against traveling, but you should very seriously limit that kind of spending if you're not loaded. It's also insane to me how many people insist on going balls out on all of their vacation trips when they haven't even explored 5% of their own state.

Just a tourist trap. Orlando even sent me a ticket for a camera saying i ran a red light which I never did. When I was back in the city a while later, I returned to that intersection to see what the deal was. It was a scam. The yellow light lasts for like a split second. So basically if you take the yellow light, you end up running a red light and get a ticket.

I went back in 2014 with my wife and we stayed a week at the Contempo. Had to shell out over $5K back then (not including plane tickets). I can't imagine what it would cost now.

Agreed. And they are paying that money to stand in lines in the heat 80% of that time. Take that money and invest it.

not jealous at all lol. torture that i have to pay for is the worst kind. today i'm at cocoa beach...$0 to get in and i much prefer something like that over disney/universal

the vast majority of people at these places are closer to poor than rich. going there will help keep them that way. my aunt will take her kids/grands and drop $15-20k, but her and and husband are worth $10m+. they didn't go places like that until they were worth probably $2-3m+.

I went to universal and epcot on middle school field trips. I think it cost 50 bucks at the time.

We spent a week there in April. My daughter bought a panda at Animal Kingdom (because she loves them) and we named it Pay Pay, because that's all you do at that place. Pay and pay some more.

Universal was even more ridiculous. Would never go back there because the cost to even get in is high enough, you have to walk three miles to just get inside the gates, and then most of the rides suck. Diagon Alley was cool.

That's the thing that sucks about most amusement parks. If you go on a busy-ish day, like you said... 80% of the trip is s0ent standing in lines in hot as hell weather. Like waiting 30 - 45 minutes just to go on a certain roller coaster ride that lasts 3 minutes. Stuff like that seems a lot more fun when you're a kid with zero responsibilities and feeling like you have 12 hours to burn with nothing better to be doing in that time. And when the money you're spending is coming from your parents' paychecks instead of your own. Once you become the adult... the whole thing really loses a lot of it's luster.

of the rides we did...the Harry Potter ones were the best. especially the one in the castle. granted we had to wait about 45 minutes for 2-3 minute rides. the butter beer in the potter restaurant was pretty good. unbelievably though, they charge $75 for kids to get a $3 "magic wand" so they can stand in front of windows to see little magic tricks. for even more money the kids can have their name put on it...for even more money they can have a special bag to put it in.

yep. in a perfect world it would be something like $75 per person to get in and ride all day. and the food would only be about 10% more than outside the park...no $14 sodas and $8 stale pretzels. but i guess as long as there's a sea of people lined up to go they will charge whatever they can get. my dad would always say if he was a billionaire he'd own a park and make it affordable so all kids could afford to go.

you dont have to go to disney to experience this. a movie theater will happily charge you $30 for a large popcorn, drink and small bag of M&Ms
