What kind of amenities does your office have?

It’s interesting how vastly office perks differ. You can have a self sufficient ecosystem of free luxury like the Google campus or you can work in a stuffy cubicle chithole.

At my last job I worked inside one of the corporate office towers downtown so it was actually pretty nice. We had a small gym, a cafe in the lobby and restaurant on the 2nd floor. Our offices were clean and modern, marble floors, fancy art decor, fountains, tons of natural lighting. There was a company store with discounted snacks/drinks and they gave us free parking in the underground garage. Fkin awesome place to work.

My current job is the complete opposite. I’m in an old 1970s suburban office park with stained carpets, beige cubicles, buzzing fluorescent lights, no fancy comforts at all. Just a keurig and a couple vending machines packed with expired food (ded fkin srs lol).

How about you?

Yeah my building is nice. We've got a gym, cafes, restaurant and all similar chit to what you had. I only go in a couple times a week though because I cba to look at half the people in the place.

Feels. When I worked at that downtown office tower job they let us WFH whenever we wanted after covid hit. I never went in lol.

I miss that place tho. Too bad they only paid me $35k/yr otherwise I never would’ve left srs.

The on-site gym is pretty good, and they have a subsidized cafeteria.

Went to the gym this weekend looking for pull-up bars to hang on and take the load off my back (sciatica crew). Was surprised to see that they had some.

We have all seen those places like google with massage chairs and ping pong tables and all sorts of food and drinks. Just swipe your employee badge and its all free.

Come to find out that all along they were tracking who was using all that stuff the most and they are the majority of the ones who were the first to get laid off. lol

WFH, so.......

Our "corporate" office in damn near the heart of downtown Miami is a "collaborative" environment with like 20 open desks/docking stations, a fully stocked kitchen, a lounge area, like 4 conference rooms and a big "war room".......I've been there once in 6 years. Outside of the people that work on the sites, everybody else is WFH.

Lol same setup at my current job. The bonus is the toilet having the top seat half ripped off from some fatty going apechit on the toilet

Last job had a lot of snacks and stuff but it didn’t have a breakroom. So you had to eat lunch at your desk or in the truck. Not to mention the tradies in the warehouse next door who would fight each other almost everyday it was like having a front row seat to Bumfights.

The offices/labs are nice, but nothing remarkable, as the model is to not have the "nice" stuff on site, apart from creches. All the sites, over a certain size threshold, have an on site creche.

We pay for gym memberships, instead of having them on site.
We have accounts with several food places, instead of having those facilites on site. People just order their lunch etc and it is delivered, with the company picking up the tab.
We give everybody an education and training budget, which doesn't have to be job related. People have salsa lessons, scuba lessons, language lessons, parachuting lessons, guitar lessons etc. As long as they are always learning something new, we don't get too caught up in what that something is.

The majority of employees are in consulting roles, so aren't supposed to be in the office full time. The office space is designed to remove any hurdles (childcare, food etc) rather than be a place where it is nice to hang out at.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......
