Why Did The Bar Almost Slip From My Hand Bench Pressing

OP pause benching 300lbs 4x4

OP decides to up it by 5lbs and go for 4 reps, on the 4th rep im about to descend and the bar starts tipping forward and almost slips from my hand. OP decides to rack it

was my grip just not tight enough or something? i just use regular grip, no suicide or dumb chit

yeah squeeze the bar and keep your wrists stable. also i bet the bar was bent. if the bar has a bend in it, and you dont grab it where it rolls even with gravity, it can shift on you like that. so many gyms have chit bent bars. I always check if the bar is straight and if the collars spin or if they are seized. good chance too that the collars didnt spin freely and through off the ability of the 45 lb plates to move freely.

Same, I'm still squatting but doing easy sets of 10. Can't be wasting energy that could be put toward benching.

i m not talking about collars that hold the weights so they dont slide off. what i mean is at the end of the bars there are collars that should spin freely. Often, in public gyms, these collars no longer spin freely and can contribute to making the lift feel unnatural.
