attraction is NOT highly fluid though. if it was we would just see a sea of random people (looks wise) pairing up. we do NOT see that.

I don't see that at all. 99% of the couples i see generally look similar in attractiveness. perhaps some girl is a little better looking than her man or the man could've done a little better, but they are still pretty similar (obviously the aging process can skew this if one doesn't age as much). the ones that don't look similar in attractiveness obviously stick out so you notice them. and of course this doesn't hold true for famous or very wealthy men because they can date up far above their looks level.
