Starting over at 24years old what job do you pick?

Mulling over my options, correction officer pays $22 an hour with sign on bonus. Also thinking about just getting a part time job and being a semi neet since my COL is low.

I used to advise kids this, but no more. Deploying to third world $hitholes to die or severely suffer PTSD for bankers/MIC wars, forced death shots, pink haired/ph@ggotty woke leadership forcing bs....naw. Last thing I want kids to do is join our services in this day and age.

Wrong time to be having the easiest life.

Only easiest life is being a trust fund baby or coming from money. Even then, those kids still end up on drugs and committing suicide.

But electrical is always in demand. Doing that right after high school?

0 debt, school paid for.. working up north in a union prob pulling in 200k+. For elevators, even greater

Multiple pensions so retirement taken care of, but you can add additional

Some drawbacks are the people

But i genuinely like moving around, doing stuff with my hands.. not having to worry about working out cause the job is enough, etc.

MAYBE physical therapist.. cause its medicine but not as caught up in doctor/ hospital/ nursing

Agreed. I'm actually thinking about switching to become an electrician. Probably avoid elevator just because of risk. A little more dangerous lol.

I remember when I was thinking about college, PT was at the top of my list. But then I found out to be a PT you need 7 years of schooling and then clinicals. Fook that. Coming out with like 100-200k of debt too.

Crazy how certain jobs like skilled maintainers, NDI techs, elevator mechanics, etc are making as much or more as architects, engineers, etc.

And they don't have 4-6 years of extra school student loans, etc

There's been an inversion in the job market, how long will it last though?

Yea I think it was just heavy propaganda. When I was in highschool they said blue collar work was for the poor and you cap your earning potential so you should instead get student loans and go into corporate to slave your life away until you're some manager making 500k a year!

It was all horse****. But i think the one thing holding people back is the physical demand and risk of injury. Otherwise kids would flock to oil rigs, elevator and being a lineman.

I graduated pre-employment electrical and took the first year exam which I got 93% on.

Started a temp labourer job, and then found a position in a wire crew for underground utilities, got paid 19.50 and like 8-10 hours of overtime a week.

Then did commerical first year sparky, went around upgrading hvac for schools, shame I didn't pass my probation lol

Then got hired as a production worker making 26 an hour which was great

Covid hit, I went on medical leave, came back after like 9 months and got laid off lol

After EI ran up, I went back to first year electrical lol

I think I went through 10 positions lol

Went back to retail at the mall, and now finally, I had landed a full time key holder position as a consultant of safety shoes/boots, clothing and accessories

I need an easier life I was raised by tradies and been working my ass off doing hard manual labor since I was like 13. Now my back is shot.

If you are.. and have thoughts of going union
My advice would be just to go straight into the union

As opposed to a trade school. Id maybe advocate for a job..but then again its not 100% theyd give you the experience

I have seen over the years they hardly give credit to non-union electrician experience
Unless youre like 15+ years deep and a surefired journeyman. The union wants to train you their way

Electricians need 8k hours of apprenticeship to get their license.

I thing you're right. There's a definite over supply of mediocre degree holders. Due to propaganda, student loan subsidies, etc.

There's also the physical demands which mean you should logically have to pay more versus a job in A/C cube farm.

But I wonder if in 10-20 years it won't go back to the way it was. Tradesmen seem to get hit especially hard in recessions because a lot of construction is based on credit.

Its all fun and games until you actually have to go to war, and judging by the state of the world that will probably be sooner rather than later.

If I had joined the military out of HS I would have most definitely been sent to Iraq/Afghanistan and blown up by an IED or maimed by shrapnel.

I joined in 2006, and I wasn't blown up.

Sales. All of us are 30+ except one guy is early 20s and he mogs tf out of his peers. It’s not nearly as cool when you’re 30+. But to be young with a new boat, sports car, etc. one of the only profession with a low bar to entry and extremely high celling. The top sales guys at almost any company make the most

thats not true at all. you get a high asvab score and you pick what job you want. actually you can pick what job to guarantee you dont go to Iraq.

most people dont know this though. even most people that went in the military didnt realize it until after they went in. you would need a vet to explain it to you.

i knew a boomer who was about to be drafted for vietnam and he leap frogged them and joined the navy instead and was on a boat the whole time in the atlantic far away from that chit. 5d chess move that may have saved his life

Even if you do get injured when you're young you can bounce back from it very fast. Its best to bust your ass while you're young and cruise into your late 30's and try to be retired (with the help of investments) before the age of 45-50. When you get to your 40's and beyond minor aches and pains will come out of nowhere and last for weeks for seemingly no reason at all, lol

I took the ASVAB the last couple days of school before graduating (my mind was elsewhere) so I really didn't study for it or try. I think I got like a 74 so it was nothing special.
