What about finance? I work in a very specialized area and you'll never get in without a degree and experience (which, experience you can't get without a degree lol).

Those degrees are useful if you're in the top 10%.

They're also useful to check a box. You can't be an officer in the military without a college degree, for example. It also looks good for things like applying to be a pilot, law enforcement, etc.

My previous employer paid for my degree and it helped me get into the job I have now... at a different employer. lol.

Yeah even then it's kinda over rated unless you are passionate about what you are doing... A plumber who starts out of high school will retire with more money than a doctor if he plays his cards right. And if you wanna make crazy money, a degree isn't necessary. Only real way to do that is own a business and anyone can do that

well chirrens, here's my take on the butthole of things, and I know my take is extremely important to all of you in piss

if you know what you want to do before you to college, and your plan is detailed..."i want this job, i want that piss, i want this ass", etc. then by all means, go study your piss and do it

If you have no idea what you want, which the vast majority don't at such a young age, but you're pretty smart, major in a stem, and just graduate.

If you have no idea what you want, but you're mediocre intellectually, then son, just decide on a damn trade son. Go forth in life, and seize it, cocks out. Smack City boy

There’s no alternative yet.

But I’d agree, either top ranked school or population center / very integrated.

Nothing good came out of degree mills since they opened.

Yeah I mean as long as it's professionally accredited and/or you apply yourself and do really well.

If you're passionate and smart enough, i guess you'll find a use for any degree though.

Keep in mind that school is free in Cuba and if you are lucky, real lucky you can use your degree to get a job driving a 1952 chevy taxi around a tourist area.

Clearly not everyone needs to go to college.

If everyone goes it just waters down everyones degree. before you know i fast food jobs will require a degree because its just another check in the box.

If anything, college should be much more exclusive and harder to get into and harder to get degrees. Fewer people should attend, not more.

People always say that you cant put a price on a good education or that its the most important thing in life and all that. its simply not true.

Common sense should be what people look for.

Going to a top ranked school can signal that you're smart, and competent enough to hold important positions in society, even if it's a useless degree in the end that you kinda regret.

I wouldn't intend to do it, but once you're there and you realize it's a scam, you gotta make the most of it.

Previous generations got scammed into fighting wars for bankers, our generation got scammed into going to university.

Funny enough, I’ve only interviewed one ivy leaguer and it was the most cringe interview ever. Asked him the general “tell me about yourself” question and the fukker started out detailing his childhood srs.

He told me he knew the founders of the company, but it was the wrong family lol. Had the balls to ask me when he’s starting at the end too srs. He was an autist.

Edit: his resume said he was an investment banker but there was no way

Ivy is sort of below the line of “top” ranked

MIT is a different tier from Brown


Responsibility is the test, either way, not academic tradition.
