It’s funny how rich people always complain about spending money
My mom’s boyfriend makes multiple six figures and has investment accounts over $1 million yet he complains about the electric bill being $200 a month or spending $50 on dinner. Meanwhile I make $55k/yr and literally don’t give a single fuck about my utility bills or spending money on food if it’s something I enjoy.
The rich mindset is obviously a superior one, just interesting to observe the difference.

If he's 50+ years old, $1 mil nw is not that much. "Multiple six figures" can mean a lot of things. That could be 200k, he might be getting a chunk taken from child support, if he's in business might have business debt and his business "profits" multiple 6 figures on paper but has lots of debt to payoff, could be HCOL, etc.
Unless he's banking half a mil liquid a year straight to the pocket, then no he's not THAT rich.

I forget that I'm rich all the time. And I complain about the price of everything.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I dont love spending money but I dont think that makes me cheap. They way i look at is I can have (almost) anything I want, just not everything. I prefer to make stuff/ recycle. For example, I rarely buy new shoes and prefer to buy from thrift stores because i dont like consumer culture and the thought that every shoe ive ever worn is still in a landfill somewhere and will be for the next 500 + years.. off topic my bad!
But when i buy certain things like tools, Im thinking about passing them on to the next generation, so more than happy to pay a higher price for quality. 10 years ago i bought a bed for 5k.. would hate to see what that would cost today, but i dont have too.
Fuk my power bill though lol

Are they complaining or subtle flexing?
Like ugh it hurts to spend 400 bucks in electricity or “ugh dinner is getting out of hand, spent 400 on a date night at (insert expensive restaurant) “
One is a need, the other a want showing that 400 can be dropped on a Tuesday no biggie.

Generally, to become wealthy you need to save money beginning at an early age. The saying goes, "Don't eat your seeds before they begin growing" and is 100% true. The issue wealthy people have is that they are unable to turn this mentality off once they reach a point where their investments are earning more than their income.
The real rule of thumb should be, "Never spend money on frivolties unless those funds were produced by an asset". Basically, once you reach a point where you're playing with house money, then you can start buying wants instead of needs.
