The Wolf of Wall Street is truly a brilliant movie with so many levels to it

Did you know the Wolf of Wall Street was produced with money embezzed from the Malaysian taxpayers? The former prime minister went to jail for it.

I just watched the scene with Steve Madden talking about his shoes. He's clearly passionate about fashion and shoes but the stockbrokers don't respect this, all they respect is money.

You can see his mental struggle as he realizes he's sold his life's work out for money.

Shortly thereafter is this scene:

"I want you to deal with your problems by becoming rich!"

The irony of course is that becoming rich does not solve any of Jordan's problems. In fact it just makes them worse.

i think it hasn't aged that well - or maybe i just don't find that sort of humor appealing anymore

the performances were amazing - sure

and i did enjoy the movie back in the day, but i watched it a month or so ago, and a lot of it just seemed over the top

i think in the theatre on a first time viewing, it is like a 9/10. at home, drops fast to like a 6/10

I rewatched it in 30 minute chunks last year over the course of a week

It worked well in that format

I would say the last 30 minutes is the weak point, but up to then it's very entertaining

Agreed. I can only rewatch it if I’m in the right mood. I think Scorsese made TWOWS like a “Goodfellas in corporate America” but it definitely doesn’t hold a candle to Goodfellas, which I could rewatch every single day if I had the time.

It was alright. I think it was way too long. Needed to cut like a hour out of it.
The standard Scorsese formula shows the rise and fall but this one skimped out on the rise section and then there just wasn't enough story to justify the 3 hours.
