I'd imagine viewership was ok among fans because there was no logical reason for Drew to not win that match

Drew won't come out looking worse; he took everything Cody threw at him PLUS Fatu, and won the title as a heel in heel fashion

Not on PPV is significant; we should be able to see not just title changes but title matches on TV as per Attitude Era, where they could change on TV in a matter of weeks

Losing in that fashion does not hurt Cody - it will hopefully put him in a program with Fatu, and hopefully keep him away from any fucking titles at all for a bit

Yeah, I would have preferred a PPV win for sure, and Jacob Fatu probably wasn't necessary but it's better to win that way on TV vs PPV I feel. Plus you can have a higher profile feud with a better PPV main event with Drew with someone other than Cody Rhodes. Interesting to see how Smackdown runs with Drew holding the title, because Cody is not the draw he or anyone else seems to think he is. Plus Drew will probably defend it more than once a month on PPV.

Rumour is he asked for a quick run before dropping back to Cody to allow Cody v Roman 3, while keeping him relevant and ready for another title run

I hope they start having title defences on live TV more often and they allow titles to change hands more frequently, like in the Attitude Era.
