Did anyone watch the new Anaconda with Jack Black?
Did anyone go to see it? It came out a few weeks ago, but I never got a chance to see it. It's showing today though, which looks like the last day that my nearest theater will have it. It has a 50% on RT, which isn't that terrible. Audience score is a respectable 76%. I think Jack Black is a good comedian

Jock Block's least annoying role is in 'The Jackal' where he gets his arm blown off by a higher powered cannon, before being straight up slaughtered. Or maybe in the X-Files where he gets lightening fried by Giovanni Ribisi.

I like Jock Block, but this movie doesn't look like it mayne. It feels like they're trying to do Tropic Thunder but completely fucked it up. A different direction for this movie might have been the wiser choice than some 4th wall meta thing.

Years later, he made Bernie, a movie for which he could have been nominated for an Oscar without complaint

I went to see Anaconda on 01/15/2026. I think its a good comedy
The biggest asset is Jack Black. I found him hilarious, and more than once, he got a laugh from me: even the little stuff -- like his shocked reaction when someone knocks on his office window - becomes funny just because of his delivery. Without Jack Black, this movie likely comes off as barely above average at best. With him, though, it's actually good. I'd go so far to say that he's a comedian on the level of Jim Carrey and Bill Murray.
In addition to Jack Black, Steve Zahn has some funny moments too. Paul Rudd is serviceable. There's a subplot involving goldminers, which involves a sexy girl named Ana (played by Daniela Melchior), that gets a little shaky. But it really doesn't dominate the movie, and it also has an okay twist ... The ending offers a decent wrap-up and satisfying finish.
But it's not flawless. Again - Jack Black is great, Steven Zahn is good, and Paul Rudd is ok. Thandie Newton, however, is a weak link ... now, I've seen her in other movies before; and I'm aware that she's a good actress (her performance in the British TV show "Line of Duty" is top-notch). But her character here is so vanilla. She offers nothing memorable; she gives few (if any) funny moments. Though she tries an American accent, the traces of British pronounciation are still evident.
The movie includes one pee joke that goes too long and doesn't work out. It comes off as crass and juvenille ... they give too much screen time to the snake owner ("Carlos Santiago Braga"), whom I did not find funny. And lastly - the Jack Black boar scene is still a highlight, particularly because of Black's A+ performance. But I really wish that the studio hadn't given away that part in the previews. That scene would have hit so much harder if we hadn't known about it before seeing the movie
