Last year, I think late last summer, we got a new employee who was 44 years old. As some of you know I work in fast food, and most of my coworkers are zoomers so it's pretty unusual to get a new hire that's around my age. I got to know him pretty well over the past 5 or so months he's been working there. I'm the only person he's close with at work, but that's probably because most of the other employees are 18-23, and out of the few guys who are anywhere near our age, I'm the only one that isn't super closed off. The reason why he's working here is absolutely brutal. He actually moved here from another state (that's over 1000 miles away) because he got a job offer somewhere else. It was a basic office job, but he was having trouble finding a job, so he was willing to move across the country just for that.

He was hired along with a bunch of other people. They let him (and at least half of the other people who were hired at the same time) go without even telling him. He just showed up, his ID wouldn't scan, and they asked him to leave. I've actually heard this same story multiple times now. It seems that it's now a trend for companies to hire a bunch of people, then only keep the best performing ones and get rid of the rest. That's not a trend in fast food....yet...but it seems in the white collar world that's becoming a thing now.So he started working here thinking it would only be for a short period of time until he could get something better...but it's been nearly half a year and he can't get anything else.

To make matters worse, they only gave him part time hours since all new hires start part time (and apparently the goal is to transition to an all part time workforce at my job with the exception of managers to save money) so he can't afford rent. He was living out of a motel while working at the office job, but he's been living out of his car since he started this job because he can't even afford the motel he was staying at. He's not a truecel. He's incel as far as I'm concerned but not a truecel. He'd be considered "nearcel" or even "failed normie" by some standards here.

He was only with one woman (his ex-wife) his entire life. He brings her up quite a lot, and at first I thought he was divorced sometime semi-recently, but no, he got divorced when he was 24, no woman since. He met that girl in high school and they dated on and off. They "took at break" at her request after high school then they got back together and married when he was 20. She cheated on him with an ex, he stayed, then she cheated on him with a 17 year old, he stayed, then she divorced him to get with that guy when he turned 18 and got his own place. She passed on from heart failure a few years ago (she was apparently always morbidly obese). He seems to have mixed feelings about it.

He said his life has been hell ever since she left...but again, that was 20 years ago. He clearly loved her a lot and still has feelings for her even though she cheated, divorced him, and is no longer on this earth.He's tried to get another gf but he's had no luck. In his words, his ex-wife was "the only woman who ever gave [him] a chance]". He's bald and looks 50+ but his facial features aren't hideous. He looks like he was probably mtn back when he was young. Then the norwood reaper came knocking.He seems like a normal guy, but depressed, and semi-low IQ. He worked other low level office jobs for years before the one he got fired from most recently, so he's not super low IQ, but from the way he talks, his life experience, and the fact he failed all of his college courses when he went to college, I'd estimate his IQ to be around 90. A bit higher than mine. 

He's worked hard and struggled his whole life and has nothing to show for it. He has no one who can help him. His parents are dead. He moved far away from anyone he's known, and his only living family is a brother who's wife doesn't want him financially helping him out because they can't afford it. He seems to think they might take him full time at this place...but I've already told him that while they tell new hires there's a chance to get full time after 6 months to a year...it usually doesn't happen. And frankly he's slower in terms of reaction times than most of the other employees, so honestly he's much more likely to get fired than get full time.

I didn't tell him THAT part, but he seems to realize he's slower than most of the other employees, so I think he suspects this is true, at least deep down.While it's depressing hearing him talk about his situation, It's also nice that there's someone I'm close with at my job who I can actually relate to since most of my coworkers are socially stunted memelord zoomers. More controversially, I can relate to him more than your average 18 year old autist on this forum who goes on about "muh NTpill".
