Sinners sets an all-time record with 16 nominations, passing Titanic's 14 nominations.

F1 surprisingly gets a Best Pic nomination (I would have went with Weapons instead). Jesse Plemons from Bugonia gets snubbed. Kate Hudson, somewhat surprisingly, gets a nomination for Song Sung Blue. Paul Mescal from Hamnet for snubbed in the supporting actor category ...

On a very positive note: Wicked gets zero nominations

I won't watch the ceremony, but i'll read the results ... let's face it, movies that win/get nominated by the Academy are more likely to survive history. Generations from now, people will look back at this list of Academy Award winners/nominees, just as people today might watch 1930s and 1940s movies by looking at which movies got recognized by the Academy during those years

F1 and Sinners were huge summer blockbusters . I get it if you've never heard of Sentimental Value or The Secret Agent. But F1 and Sinners -- you're kinda saying that you live under a rock

Watchable, but it's not all-time great, as many people claim. I give it a 6.0/10. There are some funny moments, and the car-chase scene is cool. There's some thoughtful messaging about political movements. But the movie has a ton of jazz music playing in the background from start to end. The movie is kinda bloated in runtime. There are too many scenes with DiCaprio's wife (some radical black chick). Critical moments in the movie are given to minor characters. There is a paucity of likeable characters besides Del Toro (and even he might rub some people the wrong way because he's harbors and smuggles illegal immigrants). The stuff with Sean Penn and the white supremacist group needed some sharpening

As for Leo - he got an Oscar nom, but it's not a Top 5 role in his career. I think he basically gives a Jack Black performance: he plays a clumsy stoner for the majority of the flick, and the most memorable scene is a comedic gag involving his inability to remember a passcode

I know what the F1 race is, might’ve heard they made a movie in passing. Sinners I had to look up, something about vampires? Sounds gay AF.

I don’t really watch movies though.

also isn't good to hear it's not up there with his best work. makes me wonder if he did it then for the politics and an easy paycheck. he was one of the GOATs for a long time.

I watched 15 minutes of One Battle after another and shut it off. How in TF is that nominated for so much shit is beyond me.

About Weapons though - Amy Madigan has a supporting actress nom (and a great chance to win). That's huge for her and the movie

Sinners was great

F1 was a solid summer movie doesn’t deserve anything close the best picture nom.

Weapons was great and should be up there.

Sinners was actually pretty good, but not great.

I thought One Battle After Another was well made, but too long and too cartoonish. I really only enjoyed the 3rd act. I think this movie will age well and become more appreciated over time. I think it’s a movie you have to see more than once to truly appreciate.

I watched this YouTube video that explains the movie and I think he’s right. Worth watching.



I just watched Marty Supreme in theaters and thought that was better than all these movies.

Overall a good, but not great year for movies. But at least we’re trending up. The last decade of movies have been awful.

How the fuck is Sinners nominated, it was an average movie. That one battle after another is also insanely overrated. Weapons is the best on that list
