People ignore the safety aspect of old cars

There's this masturbation that goes on about driving cars to 300-500k+ miles, and that's cool and a huge money saver, but car safety technology has drastically improved since the 90s, even since the 2010s, modern cars are far safer. At some point it's worth the money to upgrade, especially with how awful modern drivers are and how crowded roads are. Maybe you keep the old car too since insurance will be cheap, and just drive it around town in low-speed scenarios to keep miles off new car, but if I'm doing much highway driving I want a more modern car.

older vehicles did not have as much deformation in their materials therefore more energy was realized by the driver. Cars that look deformed/crumpled are that way by design. Energy is dissipated in order to deform the material. Energy can't be destroyed, but can be transferred...it is transferred into deforming materials. This lowered the energy left (conservation of energy) that is realized by the operator.

Same idea as when i thrust into your sisters asshole. not a lot of deformation going on...a lot of energy being transfered to her angus.

Most people who die in car accidents are retards who meet 1 or more of the following criteria:

History of previous, at-fault accidents

Drunk

Diagnosed with ADHD

Drive like a maniac (more than 15 over, weaving in and out of traffic)

Using phone while driving

Over 65

People often sugarcoat this to avoid speaking ill of the dead. But if you drive defensively you can avoid 90% of accidents. Majority of modern car "safety" features such as auto-braking and blind spot assist are designed to protect unaware retards who fall into the above categories. If you are a good driver you don't need them.

Dying in a car accident is one way to resolve all of your financial concerns.

Here is the thing. A vehicle is a depreciating asset. The newer the vehicle, the worse it is. The more expensive it is, the worse it is, such as German cars. It's not just the cost of the vehicle but insurance, taxes, maintenance, and repair costs are much higher. The only real downside of an older vehicle is reliability and well, safety standards.

I'm almost 40 and have been in a grand total of 0 accidents

It's mostly dumbass people who wreck. If you have even a moderate amount of intelligence, common sense, and spatial awareness your odds of getting in a wreck out of sheer bad luck are extremely low.

If you do get in a wreck it's also likely to be at lower speeds, like a fender bender as well. The severe high speed wrecks usually involve complete morons.

So you're basically less than half way through your driving career if you live to say 65 and you're real smug nothing will happen...lot of miles lot can happen in 26 years.

completely agree. if you remove old people, motorcycles, insane people, drunks, and sub 100iq, driving deaths would be drastically lower. BUT those people are still out there running into normal people

yea - I think there's a balance to be found between buying brand new, and buying something new enough that it has most of the modern safety stuff (like crumple zones). I feel like the sweet spot is like 2018 range vehicle. Going to have most the safety stuff while being 8 years old so you don't have to eat all the depreciation

but then you have to buy a Honda/Toyota so you don't have eat all the maintenance of an European car

mostly agree - but sometimes there's nothing you can do. I've been rear-ended at a stoplight before and there was just nothing to do, cars on both sides of me.

True. Boomers think old cars were safer because the bodies were made of steel and new cars are made with plastic and aluminum. But that ignores the engineering advances, which are not even comparable.

wish they made new cars with the safety features but without some of retard computer features. i shuld not av needs turn car of to open back hatch, and shuld be able to disable beeping when seat belts not strapped. was driving just to few stores over in same parking lot but it was mega shopping center and dumb fuck car keeps beeping. am not gonna strap seat belt for 5 mph driving thru fucking parking lot

A lot of old cars built before 2000's just smell bad, like old people, and don't have some of the other conveniences like apple carplay, electric windows (you have to crank down the windows to open them), backup cams

this. that's why I like the ~2018 range. it's before they got out of control with the electronics and dumbass features, but still has the modern crumple zones stuff.

I'd gladly buy something super basic, I dislike all the "Features" on new cars. give me simple, safe, reliable, and efficient. don't care about much else.

I'd take an old school Stingray or Barracuda over most shit that isn't a Mustang, Hellcat, Corvette or Euro supercar these days

The fact that I could crash into someone and kill everyone in the other vehicle then buff out the scratches afterwards is ideal for me.
