Favourite sport and your best achievements.....

Pls share some stories. We all have them – like Al Bundy with his Polk High.

Never achieved anything as an adult, but (humble bragging) was promsing in my youth (track.) Got second in the nationals in middle distance and steeplechase, while also jumping 6'2 (high jump) without a coach,- practised alone just for fun – and broke a local hammer throw record. Probably could never be at the top in any one thing, but proud of that weird combo.

Might still get back into it, since they now have senior competions up to the age of a hundred. Ranges from pathetic to pretty good, but all in good fun.

Today we had Nordenkampen (Nordic fight) track competition, so took some gordonesque screenshots:

What was your thing misc?

Don't like talking about my athletic achievements because I'm so far removed from that now that it feels like another life.

I was a college athlete though. Never helped me get laid

More recently I bench pressed 260 at 180 while not being naturally strong. Proud of that

Nice lift! Why can't we be proud though - even if long ago? It's something that still took some talent and dedication. I don't think it is sad to look back - but taking it seriously would be strange. Explosive midget jumps have inspired me a bit tbh.

Good point. Played for my state as a teen and did well at the regional tournament. Also tied the state champion one year on my travel team. Guess I get depressed about my wasted potential

Nice, pulled up the gyms here for it. Would like some beginner things, but too out of shape. Did some boxing at 17 and remember how scared I was at first.

Sweet, they made a good docu about armwrestlers here some yrs ago - including an amazing chick - living in a tiny country place called "ensamheten" (loneliness) I think. :) Will try to find it.

Best I've ever hit was a silver in the IBJJF Europeans (BJJ) at blue belt a few years back.

Wouldn't mess with you then. :) Great stuff. Haven't been around many with martial background. Just a few in highschool. Twins that got bronze in nationals (judo), and a dude that became scandi champ in judo. Amazing how strong they were in other things as well - gymnastic things - while not looking like anything, still felt that grip strength etc when play fight.

"Swedish" long jumper - she has good enough personal records to get medals, but very unreliable. Reminds me of a dude my age that jumped 8 meters (LJ) at 17 with parents from Ghana. Better than Carl Lewis etc and all the talent, but no discipline.

Wasn't much of an athlete in my teens, but played baseball and was a decent pitcher. Threw a complete game shutout one time and made the all-star team, which were both pretty cool. Never hit a homer, but I did hit a triple which was something because generally I didn't run or hit well. My favorite was actually when our team took third place in a tournament only because the other team didn't have enough players show up to play in the losers bracket decider. I'm sure we would have lost and got fourth or fifth otherwise. Pretty funny.

As an adult, I've done a couple of 20 mile hikes with significant elevation gain in one day. Also completed the full two months of the Beachbody Insanity program. Sounds stupid, but just try it. Month two will.make you want to kill yourself.

Got second place out of a thousand or so kids in elementary school. We had this yearly competition , and I hung on the bar where you keep the bar at eye level for 137 seconds . Unfortunately my buddy who is hyper active did 145.

I did 63 seated situps where someone holds your legs ,but my buddy got 66 .

Thanks for sharing - wish I knew more about baseball tbh. When went to college in the U.S. in the 90's, my friends made me go to a Marlins game - so at least I've seen some. Fun thing was seeing how happy my tiny nephew (at the time) was when brought him marlin hat and shirt.

Hockey was my sport, 1st grade started on my 1st team (Pee Wee's). Played all thru high-school. Varsity as a very small Sophomore.
Age 13 got picked to play on Traveling Team. (Like a all-star team in those days - 1979). Went all over, up to Canada and lived w/ a family in Montreal for a few weeks. (Tournament)
They couldnt talk English. Then the same kid came here for a tournament and stayed w/ us...

Really fun times and the GAOT of sports. Fighting, hitting, blades, sticks, blood, etc. Baseball and BB was lame, I quit early on.
Wasn't a "rush" like Hockey was. fell apart in HS and quit senior year. (Girls, booze, weed, playing in bands, etc). Focus had shifted.

Polk High has nothing on me bitches!! Anyways, very fun days... Grew up with a new/giant Ice Rink in our local HS where we played from a young age...

It could have been mine as well, but we were all too poor at the time. Stadium was only 5 minutues away. Remember us going to the hockey stadium and looting extremely smelly gear in the containers, then bringing back to our yards to play land hockey, lol. Hockey was the number one sport growing up, just couldn't afford it.

Best achievements are probably bodybuilding related. Nationally qualified for Men's Physique multiple times - took first place a couple times in the regional shows I did.

I never actually competed at Nationals though because I knew I'd get washed. If I had tried competing right when Men's Physique launched as a category I would have had a better chance to be competitive at Nationals but by the time I was doing it the category was getting bigger and bigger

As a kid I played baseball and basketball. I was a lazy kid though so I was never very good. Lifting is probably what flipped the switch for me to fully dedicate at something. I really wished I had the work ethic and dedication to baseball that I've had for lifting. I think I could have at least played college ball, but a lot of times that is what separates kids and that's fair.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

I love Judo but I rarely take part any more. If I can get to BJJ twice a week its enough. Judo is tricky to compete in, it takes very little to hit the L.

Wow, nice. Have no idea how those competition work, but mirin. How do you even get started? I hear you on baseball/basketball. My basketball was my companion for years.

Stopped between 15 and 18, then picked it up somewhat with streetball in the us during college. Thankful that many black dudes accepted me on the court (got nicknamed michigan - cause yellow shorts) - and since not american they took me in even more. Even off court and into homes. It seemed calm between groups back then (even tho not great) - but not as crazy as today.

Was all conference lefty pitcher in CT for high school. Played on the JMU baseball team for a year but really couldn't hack it. So I played club baseball at James Madison, which was actually pretty competitive. We played schools like UVA, university of Richmond, William and Mary, and VA tech. I was so fuking awkward back then I still struggled to get sloots. Never partied or drank. I turned to alcohol in my mind 20's and suddenly my dating life did a 180 and was pretty successful. Really messed up when I think about it.

Hockey was/is my favorite sport. To watch and play.

Played at a high level in my teens( jr a). Got called up and played a few games in the OHL but didn’t have the size to stay up full time. Probably could’ve played low level pro for a bit but decided to make some money in the oil patch instead. Not a day goes by I don’t regret not really giving hockey 110% while I played.

I played many sports through school but nothing exciting. I guess bodybuilding, (even though I don't consider it sport) would be my best achievement. Few gyms sponsored me and paid for most of my shows. Competed in over 30 shows, placed in the top spots many times, won numerous posing awards, qualified to go pro and compete on a national level. Never bothered because I was too small...could never compete as a heavy weight.
