Yes-there would be a leadership vote & he automatically would go on the ballot as serving PM. In theory it might make the party more popular if the right person takes over & changes tack.

Only the PM can call a general election-they have a mammoth majority of over 400 MP's in the House Of Commons, so like the Tories before them with their big majority they are not going to call a general election & they know full well they would lose it currently-the next one has to happen by mid August 2029 by law.

The only other one who could dissolve parliament theoretically before the next general election when it automatically happens is the monarch, but the last time a King tried to bypass parliament & do as he pleased on direct orders from God-Charles the First it led to a nearly decade long brutal civil war where hundreds of thousands died-mostly outside of combat-Charles was tried, found guilty of high treason & beheaded.

Since then the royals have very little to do with parliament-the monarch opens it every year & an MP is kidnapped & held hostage at Buckingham Palace until the monarch is safely returned back there & while the monarch is changing they are reminded not to get any ideas as Charles death warrant hangs in view of where they put the ceremonial robes on.
