Is it worth it to sell your soul?

Sometimes I wonder if I would’ve been better served to throw my life away at 18 and chase after fast money.

If I jumped head first into some high pressure, high income career like B2B sales, trading, SaaS, etc. I probably could’ve put in 80 hour weeks, made $250k+ year year, saved aggressively and been on the cusp of retirement already before the age of 30. Then I would be free for the rest of my life.

The grind would’ve been absolutely miserable (10x worse than being a wagie) but would it have been worth it?

What you're not accounting for is that you're looking at this from the lens of hindsight and survivorship bias. The people who did do well with that approach probably did sell their soul. But not everyone selling their soul did well. It's very possible to sell your soul and have not much to show for it. Meanwhile you have guys like Hunter Biden who got rich smoking crack and selling paintings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you shouldn't work hard and take risks. I'm just saying to moderate expectations and to realize that life isn't fair and that working hard and taking risks doesn't deliver anywhere near a guaranteed result.

I work 40 and only make $55k.

I don’t understand how miscers make so much money. My mind literally can’t comprehend it. Everyone I know irl makes around what I do. My most successful friend is a tradie pulling just under 6 figures, but he works 50+ hours and nets way less than he should after union dues, insurance, etc.

Well, if you make a certain amount, your social circle usually makes about the same amount.

The only thing I can say is, you gotta do something. Complaining while making no moves will not get you anywhere.
