How do you feel about next gen potentially being delayed due to the RAM situation?
Sony has been talking about delaying the PS6, Microsoft is likely to delay their next gen console as well, and even Steam has been seemingly delaying their upcoming console due to the RAM situation.
Personally I think it's a good thing. It seems like hardly anybody was wanting consoles to rush into a next gen relatively soon because this gen took so long to really takeoff and go anywhere. That and the PS5 Pro is still a relatively new console and more than capable of running the latest games well. To top it off there just hasn't been any real hardware revolutions or major advancements to desire over what we already got.
What are your thoughts on the situation?

They should delay next gen until they learn how to utilize the technology properly.
They should also delay until devs remember how make consistently good games. I have very little excitement for anything coming out (maybe Fable?) And I think its just because everything is either soulslike or slop and we get 1 to 3 good games per year.

Performance has been a real focus this gen as a result, but it seems like the PS5 Pro can play just about everything at 60fps with some optimization.

I'm fine with them delaying. Like I said in the state of play thread, this year seems like we've finally turned the corner where all the games coming out look quite impressive on current generation. This gen still has a lot to offer.
What I want more is for devs to optimize their fucking games so that it runs well across a multitude of configurations. The one silver lining is that these ram prices get so riddiculous that devs are forced to optimize their games across the board because people are unable to buy components.
Also on the lack of good games .... I think if you're looking into the AAA space, these days there's not so much to be excited for. There's still a lot of good games out there that look cool, but they're gonna be very samey and safe for the most, so your mileage is gonna vary. Personally 2026 has been off to a banger start imo. Game of the year has already come early in Mewgenics, which is absolutely fantastic. Smaller companies and indies are really pulling their weight this gen when the big pubs have instead become obsessed with making money leading to safer, more bland games that hardly take any creative risks.

I still can’t believe PS5 gen is almost over.
What a sham. PS6 will be touted as powerful but within 6 months it’ll be back to 1440p 60. Devs don’t give a shit about anything running well.
My 3080 is still chugging along. I doubt I’ll upgrade anytime soon.

AA is what I've been really focused on and that seems to span everything from sophisticated indie games to what would have been considered AAA a decade or two ago. It's like all the passion is gone when it comes to any of the big publishers, they are all ran by modern day big tech who only cares about their charts, graph, and what they can get executives to agree with. So everything they make is either "safe" games or some live services scheme.

I just think this sucks for the PC market is all, I was planning on getting a new gaming PC by the time my PS5 Pro is getting outdated so luckily I can hold off there, but it definitely creates a lot of unsurity when it comes to just getting tech devices for general use now a days. But it's crazy how well tech from like 5 years ago has aged. My old 2019 gaming laptop has aged great, and I am now glad that I got it basically stuck on Windows 10 because I think Windows 11 sucks and it's fine for the type of games I play on PC occasionally. I just hope Valve can do something good with their Steam console because that sounds like the sort of thing that could make it easy for me to have what would be essentially a gaming PC for a TV, which is how I would want to use a gaming PC for next gen anyways.

AAA games simply take forever to develop now a days and the long development periods made it so it takes years to get much, and even then you will only get a few truly standout games.

Graphically gaming has peaked, how much better can it get? I personally don't care much about 4k or anything above 120 fps tbh. I'd rather good games then half broken games released littered with micro transactions and battle passes.

Who cares
Most of the games now are glorified ps4 games
And the graphics look fine
Even ps4 looked fine the worst part of ps4 was the load times. Red dead 2 was horrible even with an SSD
Ps5 finally fixed the load speed there's still no good games
AI will crash sometime in next few years
Open AI claims they would spend a trillion dollars by 2030 but they have almost no revenue and most consumers of AI are using free versions
This will crash back down

But you're right, when I go back to play a lot of PS4 games on my PS5 it amazes me how many of them look as good if not better than the latest games. In fact you can go back to PS3 and 360, and with some remastering/enhancements they totally look good enough, and some have aged incredibly well.

After just about finishing up South of Midnight, I've got to say I really appreciate the art style they went with. It was refreshing to play a game that wasn't trying to be some photorealistic avant garde nonsense. Just some good old ugly ass characters and a neat animation style.
The game itself was alright, but I'd kill for more $30-$40 10-15 hour games instead of AAAA bloated fetch quest 200 hr walking Sims that are only "good" because of their graphics.

Art style is the big difference maker now a days when it comes to what makes a game's graphics appealing.
