Upcoming movie: Scream 7

This movie is coming out on Friday. It's currently tracking for a huge box-office opening weekend ($40M-ish). There was some snafu in production. They had to get rid of Melissa Barrerra, and then Jenna Ortega and the director both left.

Part 7 therefore goes back to Neve Campbell as the protagonist. Campbell reportedly got a $7M salary because they were desperate for her star power after Barrera+Ortega left

I can't believe people pay to see movies anymore. The only time I go is to take my kid to see something she wants to see, anything I want to see I just find it posted online somewhere.

I watch a lot of movies at home on the free apps, like PlutoTV, Roku, Viziofree, and Tubi etc. But the newer movies won't be there. If you're using those illegal piracy sites like lookmovie, the video quality is shit.

I have a regal unlimited subscription. As long as I see 2 movies per month, I save money (and I see a lot more than 2 per month). Movies just have a certain magic at the theaters compared to watching at home

5 is solidly okay (B+), 6 has a lot of potential but fell flat (B-/C+)

I'll still go see 7 out of commitment to the franchise, not expecting much especially considering the changes made regarding the cast and the storyline that'll now be scrapped (no spoilers)

I watch so many movies at home but it's a nice treat to go out to the movies for something different. I've seen them all so I'll be going to see this one.

Parts 5 & 6 are the ones that revitalized the franchise, with Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. You didn’t know about their scream movies ?

reviews are coming

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/scream_7

47% after 30 reviews. For comparison, the lowest RT score for any Scream movie is 45% for Scream 3. All the others had about 76% on RT

I've seen HC 2 & 3.

2 is super fucked and over-the-top graphic showing everything and pushing the limit, but 3 is more of a gross comedy with slapstick performances. Nowhere near as graphic or twisted as 2.

I have seen Scream 1, 2 , 5 and 6.....can't recall much past the first movie...just the same thing over and over with some twists and cliches thrown in.

Looking forward to see what they do. I thought that the core 4 main characters were all annoying in Scream 5 & 6. Pumped to not have to see them anymore. Still shitty though that she got canned for criticizing Israel and still shitty they killed off Dewey.

I think Arquette had to die to make way for the newer cast members. They didn't want to kill of Courtney Cox, and Neve Campbell is basically this franchise's Jamie-Lee Curtis in Halloween

NO SPOILERS

I went to see Scream 7 on 02/27/2026. Altogether, it's flawed but watchable. I think a good comparison is the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" remake from last year. If you liked that one, you'll like this movie.

I think the movie has a lot to offer. Neve Campbell, while not the best actress, makes a very likeable and charismatic lead, even if nostaglia is the basis. Courteney Cox gets some good moments: a few of her lines are funny, and her arrival scene in the movie is good

.A lot of fuss occurred during this movie's production because of the depatures of Melissa Barrerra and Jenna Ortega. Truly, I can't say that I found myself missing either of them too much as I watched this movie; their depatures don't hurt this movie

The movie has a few decent kills and chase sequences. There's a tavern kill that comes close to being darkly hilarious, and the kill that occurs in the school auditorium is kinda cool. I like the intro, involving McKenna Grace. The Scooby-Doo reveal at the end makes no sense, but I can't say that I predicted it . The movie runs at a brisk 2 hours

The movie is still flawed in many ways. There are the predictable slasher movie tropes - characters make dumb actions, villains seemingly have superhuman abilities, characters conveniently appear at the exact right time etc.

The plot, at its core, is quite basic. Neve Campbell is revisited by new Ghostface killers, and she has to protect her family. There's not much cleverness or creativity in that framework. There are several cheesy lines.

I'm a little in-between about the AI stuff ... Campbell's husband is a cop. As a result, I feel that there could have been a lot more juicy material for his character. They also could've cast someone a little more starry for the husband's role.

Courteney Cox appears with the 2 twins who appeared in Screams 6. They're now her sidekicks ... I really wish that David Arquette could have there in that spot in lieu of the twins; I'm willing to bet the filmmakers wish so too

Lastly - the actress who plays Campbell's daughter, Isabel May, gives such a bland performance. Her character, as written, has little personality and few likeable traits. She's just the generic teen daughter who happens to look like a Temu Jennifer Lawrence. ... I think they should've cast a younger actress who resembles Neve Campbell. Or they could have cast McKenna Grace, who appeared in the opening sequence, as the daughter

6.5/10.
