Resident Evil Requiem
Holy fuck what an incredible game. Truly an honor to have the pleasure to experience such a masterpiece.
It’s currently the highest rated game of all time on Metacritic
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/resident-evil-requiem-currently-has-the-highest-user-score-of-all-time-on-metacritic/
Playing this game made me come to the realization that out of all the genres of games I play, I have to give it to Resident Evil for being my favorite games of all time. I used to give it to Zelda, but RE games have so many aspects to them, great story, gameplay, horror and suspenseful moments, puzzles and problem solving etc. if you have never played one of these, you can make this one your first if you want. Brb, going to replay RE4 remake, Village, RE2 remake then Requiem again.

Metacritic is a joke, nobody goes there for userscores anymore outside of the occasional big AAA release that attracts loads of fanboys like this game. That said can't knock the quality of this game, Resident Evil has been maintaining a high standard ever since they got away from whatever they were doing with RE5 and 6. I generally don't like survival horror much but RE4 is a total classic IMO and I also really enjoyed the RE3 remake. RE1 and 2 however, always struggled to enjoy those by comparison, and I wasn't really a fan of RE7 either, but I wouldn't hate on it. Never played Village but I got it for PS5, one of those games I backlogged, meant to play it after I get around to beating the Silent Hill 2 remake.
This, I'll just buy it on sale one day.

Requiem does an incredible job blending aspects from games like RE7, and their more modern tiles like Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village.
No spoilers, half of your time you’re playing as Grace, a FBI analyst and a really good new character whose voice actor has blown me away, and a lot of people agree to that. Like Expedition 33 Maelle level stuff here. Her gameplay is in first person and it’s more horror based, solving problems and puzzles, slower movement, and she has an interesting new crafting system. Then half the game you will play as Leon in 3rd person. Leon is an absolute badass with RE4 style inventory management, weapons upgrade system, fast paced gameplay with weapons and melee. Leon Wrecks everything, while Grace approaches situations with a bit more strategy
You’ll alternate between these two characters and their gameplay, and honestly it’s hard to even pick a preference, both of their gameplay just feels great and ties in nicely with each other. This game is really special, very well done, and blends aspects from Resident Evil games that all fans can love and appreciate, and people who have never played one of these ever. It will blow you away. Instantly one of my favorite games of all time, and I immediately want to replay this directly after berating it, but I’ll give it a little time.
My top 3 RE games now are
1.Requiem
2. RE4 Remake
3. Village
Serious recommend to anyone even if they never played one to play this game. It’s 96% on Steam right now.

Village has always looked and sounded much closer to a RE4 style game, that's why I really want to get around to playing it sometime. This does sound pretty good though, I can tell you're genuinely having a good time playing it and the mix of slower paced investigation with fast paced high action sounds like a good blend. It's like they really need to keep that in balance. Too much action it becomes RE6, too much slow paced survival and it's just not really fun for me anymore.

I am glad to see a longrunning franchise that has been well taken care of maintaining a high standard, and properly focused on what the fans want. I'll definitely pick this up on sale some day, like I said I just have too much backlog for this type of game at the moment to jump into it right now.

Thats a crazy issue to deal with in 2026 lol at physical copycels
But there's this whole cult-like following of people who swear by physical games as the only way they will ever buy a video game who refuse to ever play anything downloaded. Seems like that must be very limiting on the type of games people play, and their thinking never made sense to me, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I'm not even a big fan of horror games but this game looks awesome, especially the Leon sections. I never buy games full price at launch tho, I'll wait until Capcom puts it on sale in a year from now

I'm a Resident Evil snob and by Resident Evil snob I mean the originals (RE1 & RE2).
Part of me is wary they will ruin the greatness of RE2. The series has steered so far from what the survival horror it originally was designed to be and is now more action horror. RE2 was spent searching a mansion confused as fuck for like 90% of it while trying not to shoot things because you barely had any ammo and were constantly concerned you wouldn't have enough for any boss battle where you had to use the ammo.
RE4 started introducing weird shit like the merchant to buy upgrades rather than solving puzzles to unlock better weapons. It was also less scary and more in your face with zombies coming at you that you had to shoot down. A lot of it was a very linear path as well. It was still a great game but it was a clear divergence toward what was popular among gamers as things like Halo and Call of Duty were taking over around that time.
I did play RE7 and I thought they did a decent job of trying to pull it back in line with survivor horror but it never really got all the way back to what RE1 & RE2 felt like. I also played the RE2 remake, and while it was also good it was good more in the sense of RE4 that they tried to mash together with the RE2 environment which I didn't love.
They really kind of fucked up the story line after RE3 when they left Raccoon city as well imo but that's not exactly this new games fault. That's RE4's fault if I have to blame one of them and then it spiraled from there. But it's just sort of where we are with things now.
I played about a quarter of RE5 before being disgusted with it and RE6 got terrible reviews so I never bothered. I heard it was almost entirely action based, even more so than RE5 which I had a hard time even believing was possible.
All this said, yeah I will probably buy a new console just to play this fucking thing. Resident Evil is basically the game that has stuck with me into adulthood. Every once in awhile I try to test one out that's similar and I've found some ok ones but none that meet the RE1 and RE2 standard.

All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Re4 is very divisive. With it being the game that introduced me to resident evil I associate RE with action horror
Even less popular than that was the stationary camera which I thought made the originals that much scarier. God knows kids would flip if they didn't have 3D first person (or at least over the shoulder 3rd person) control of their character now though. I've accepted that the old Resident Evil's will never be returning. The only bad one that I played was RE5 though. Granted RE6's reputation was so bad I didn't even try it.
I'm sure Requiem is worth it though and I will ultimately buy a PS5 just to play it eventually. If I had to rank the games though, my preference is:
1. RE2 (original) - Perfect game. You'll never change my mind. Nothing they do will beat this. I could play it 1 million times and enjoy it.
2. RE1 (original) & RE1 (remake) - There's a few differences in the remake but it's very faithful to the original game. Worth playing but not worth ranking it separately
3. RE0 - Only on GameCube but I feel like people forget about this one or because it was limited to GameCube not many played it but this was a solid game
4. RE2 (remake) - By comparison to the RE1 remake, this one actually does have some differences to it. Granted it was remade much later.
5. RE4 - Already sort of explained my feelings on this one. I've boosted it above RE3 and RE7 simply because of Leon. If he wasn't the main character I'd drop it below those 2.
6. RE3 (original) - It's possible this is better than I'm giving it credit for. I only played it once a very long time ago and I just don't remember it very well.
7. RE7 - Good and tried to bring back survivor horror but the story was very disconnected and almost felt like a different game world than Resident Evil
8. RE5 - First game on the list that's not even worth playing. I did not actually finish it myself.
Games I've never played: RE6, RE3 remake, RE Village, RE Requiem
This thread has me thinking I should get a PS1 and replay RE3, then play the RE3 remake.

8. RE5 - First game on the list that's not even worth playing. I did not actually finish it myself.
Games I've never played: RE6, RE3 remake, RE Village, RE Requiem
This thread has me thinking I should get a PS1 and replay RE3, then play the RE3 remake.

What about Code Veronica boyo?

All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

It involves another aristocratic family involved in the development of Umbrella and it looks like the new character in Requiem is related to that family.

If since then played this game twice, then I went back and replayed RE4 remake/, RE4 Original, RE7, and I’m about to replay RE8 Village
Now I can say without a doubt RE4 remake/RE4 Original are still the best in the series, and as mentioned before RE7 is the most horror based in the series.
I don’t think they did as good of a job as they could with Leon’s part in Requiem, the treasure and upgrade system with RE4 were well designed and this was lacking in Requiem. And also the boss fights were lacking and barely any. Requiem was great, but it’s easier to see the flaws in it not
RE4 Remake is a perfect game. RE4 Remake for an overall better game, and RE7 for horror.
