I'm surprised at the horror stories. I've had nothing but great experiences with it.

I usually list something and get it sold in the same day. Maybe the reason I have good experiences though is because I'm reasonable. If I bought something new for $100, I'm not going to ask for $95 used, I'll ask for say $70 and it moves quick.

This one guy was selling a collection of tall blazers that were perfectly my size, I wanted to buy one and he canceled my order. Thought nothing of it, tried buying another about a month later, canceled and once again no explanation. I'm thinking these suits are going fast, so again think nothing of it.
Then another month or so later, I try buying another blazer from him and he just messages me a monkey emoji and cancels the order again before blocking me lmfao

I posted a piece of workout equipment for free. Some cheap machine home gym thing my father in law gave us when he moved to Florida. Some guy asked me to hold it until the weekend for him. Ok, no problem. He comes over, plays around with it for 10 min and tells me he isn't sure this is the right piece of equipment for him. Motherfucker, it's free get it the fuck out of here.

I've tried selling stuff on there, got frustrated, and decided to just throw it in the trash instead. People want to fucking haggle for $20, and I would rather just throw it in the trash than waste my time. I sent one guy pics of my coffee table that I smashed with a sledgehammer and put in my firepit, just to show that I would rather use it for firewood than sell it to a scumbag. $70 seems high, its usually more like $.50 on the dollar for used. I tried using Marketplace to pick up some stuff for my daughter like a balance bike, and most people wanted like 75%+ of new price. Why would I deal with the unwashed masses to buy from an individual to save $10? For that minimal amount of savings I'm going new.

Just a few weeks ago I listed a junk car for one of my dad's friends thats in his 70's and doesn't know how to use marketplace for $500. I started the ad off by saying this isn't my car, and I'm just listing it for an old man that can't use marketplace. If you want to buy the car you must call him, don't message me as its not my car.

I've had 20+ people message me about the car, and most of them I politely just say please reread the ad and copy and paste the part saying don't message me you need to call this number. I had one guy message me asking if the car was still for sale, and I responded saying I can't answer that its not my car and the guy selling it might have a deal lined up. If you really want to buy it please call the number so you can get up to date information on the cars status. The person responded to me by saying "$250 cash." I just blocked him.

More of the craigslist side, but I've sold on Craigslist and it's more trouble than it's worth. It's not even the low ballers which are annoying but those who seem serious and waste your time and energy. Even those who buy can do this to the point it wasn't really worth it. The worse is you are selling something old, like an old car, and they come over and start pointing out stupid things like wear and tear items or things that really don't matter trying to haggle it down to nothing.

Trying to buy a car. They are selling a vehicle that needs repairs. They are selling for almost as much as what the running one is, and they say "well a transmission is about $3500 so I'm selling it for $3500 under the book value". Yeah, but what about the labor and all the other factors that goes into that? Plus, it doesn't move, so I can't test the rest of the vehicle. If they knew I am a mechanic so they figure I have some quick fix so they refuse to come down on price.

I had a cheap table listed for $20, and people were trying to offer me $10 and shit. I'm not meeting a stranger to get $10. had another person ask me to deliver it... insane what people will ask for over $20.

$50 I think is a good cut off for it being "worth it" vs trashing something

I saw a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 project on marketplace. Supposedly had the build sheet with it. Original engine too. Lots of grainy photos and the seller was very difficult to deal with. He would only call me but block his number. I was convinced it was a scam because the seller didn't know much and mispelled and mispriced it it. It was underpriced by a lot. Anyhow, it ended up being legit and that is how I got my first muscle car. I will try and find photos...I essentially paid 30% of market value for it.
