Back when I was playing WoW in middle school and high school, Blizzard came out with a new feature where you could see somebody's real name and what other Blizzard games they were playing while online

My entire guild found out that I was half-black after somebody looked me up on socials and next thing I knew, people from all over the server were sending all of my characters watermelons and fried chicken (in game it was roasted quail but it looked JUST like fried chicken)

Closest internet friend from the game messaged me "are you really half-black? :(" and when I confirmed it, he never talked to me again

I laugh it off now and share it as a joke, but at the time it was heartbreaking

they didn't kick me out and it was the butt of ribbing for the rest of the time I played WoW; in hindsight the mailing watermelon is funny as hell, but my ~13 year old self didn't see the humor in it
