Anybody mind blown how $100k is just barely comfortable these days?

$100k is my next goal in about 15 months. And while I'd be comfy, im thinking that's it? And Im not even talking about a family of 4. Your spouse will definitely have to work for you all to get ahead. Not to mention its near the salary ceiling for most careers. And when it comes to buying a new car, you cant even get a Toyota Camry because they go for $40k. You're still stuck driving bottom of the barrel Kia.

If you want $175k+ you going to have to start your own business or become CEO

I know this sounds like a complaint, but I prefer to choose a stay at home wife and to raise a family solely on my income.

Right, because if you are a single guy with no dependents, your take home pay will be about $6K after taxes and healthcare (basic). Cost of living and all, it's not that much.

What kills me is how it's hard enough to make it with an income, so how the hell are so many people making it without income?

100k is a good starting point for a recent college graduate, but it's not be something that the majority people are paid once they get experience.

I'm comfortable clearing an avarage of about $4k a week after the accountant messes with my taxes end of year

This. I walk with marginally more, but I have a 3450/mo mortgage and I’m still capable of maxing my Roth and having money leftover.

That being said, I have no real hobbies and don’t travel.

But even if you did have hobbies, you’d still have that extra money that’s leftover to spend on it.

It blows my mind that there are single brahs making $100k who are apparently flat broke. I live in a high COL area too. In my town there are 1 bedroom condos in a pretty decent development for $225k. Mortgage would be around $2000 with 20% down, I could easily make that work as a single brah.

It’s the same old bullchit from phaggots who don’t make 100k trying to cope. I survived in a high col on a lot less a decade ago, but I was also renting/mass transit to invest (which I pissed away on a massive down payment to afford my mortgage, so lol @ me).

Most of you don't get it.

What about healthcare?
What about 401k? Surely you aren't only doing 3%
What about other investments like if you want to get into real estate, stocks, etc?

Again, $100k isnt what it was

I'm from MA and it's a law that you have to have healthcare/insurance coverage in this state. If you don't carry it they hit you with a state tax penalty...

I wish I didn't have to have it because I don't even use it srs...

At least your 401K is actually yours, and you can even withdraw it, or borrow against it where you have to pay it back. Sucks, but you can't do that for anything else. Don't even get me started on SS, you need a 401K because despite the fact that you are putting enough in to retire a millionare if it was a 401K, you won't get enough to live on because right now, people with mild autism and other "disabilities" who never contributed are milking it dry.

back in the day earning 100k was a milestone. plenty of dollar to even go skiing or a holiday to europe

you will feel it deep in your pocket if that's all you are earning with a wife and 2 or 3 kids.

it just shows you have much value the dollar has lost. even a night out in Rio Janeiro with ubers, a couple of bars and food will run you $150.

other countries are catching up real fast in price

What hurts even more is how expensive investing has become due to the cost of living jump. Wages are marginally higher, but everything else has gone up even more, so the average person’s disposable income is diminished compared to a decade ago, plus stocks are insanely inflated (S&P has more than tripled since 2016, which is good if you’ve been in the market, but not if you’re young and just starting off). Makes it that much harder to escape the matrix.

That was my starting salary at this job I have, back in 2000. So ya, I can see how it may not be ideal with todays world.
Also can depend on how you live. (And who you are supporting, yourself only, a family, etc).
