Mountain lion killed a deer in my back yard srs

Happened a couple of weeks ago. Opened a window and saw this in my back yard.

Literally took a bite out of the back of the neck and took the back straps. Nothing else. Looks like it scraped some fur off of the abdomen, but didn’t open it up.

Lots of coyotes out here. But they usually rip it to shreds and make a giant mess of the entrails. Definitely not a coyote kill.

Here are some pics of a coyote eating it the next day:

Here’s a fox checking out the carcass a few days later:

Neat. You live in Colorado right? Pretty cool to get all that wildlife in your backyard. My dad lives in the mountains of NC and gets all sorts of wildlife on his land

That’s right. We have a ton of open space behind us and there is a ton of wildlife. See it all the time. Loads of deer. Coyotes, fox, raccoons, bear, bobcats, and mountain lions.

why didn't the cougar 1) eat more meat 2) drag away the kill

I've just watched documentaries where big cats tend to hide their spoils. to me, I don't have outdoor experience for the most part, i suspect its a bear judging by the size of the bite and maybe it got spooked and ran off.

Good question. I am not sure. I have a trail cam back there and it picked up a blurry vid of the mountain lion the next night, but it’s super difficult to see. There are mountain lion sightings around here regularly as well. Bears usually make a bigger mess of the kill as well.

You can shoot a coyote whenever as it’s a varmint. But you can’t shoot a mountain lion or bear unless it’s a threat to your life.

This is cool. I would never go outside if I was dealing with that kind of wildlife. We have rabid foxes and fisher cats but I’ve never seen the fishers irl so I’m not sure if they are serious . I live in Maine but not the abundant wildlife parts of it

Cougars have wolfs running after them because theyre efficient killers, so cougars end up killing multiple things and leave them for the wolfes and coyotes so they dont fuck with him
