What is Iran going to attack the US Navy with?

Again, I think it is debatable Iran really has the ability to shut it down. We already saw this play out with the Houthis during Biden's time. The Houthis fired a bunch of rockets/drones and the US Navy was forced to use air defense missiles to shoot them down. Then Trump gets into office and bombs the Houthis and ended those types of attacks. Now Iran is in the same position, but they have already been bombed out.

Trump announcing he's blocking the Strait is simply a way to tell his friends to buy oil stocks because the price is going to skyrocket. Then in a few days he'll renege on it and the price will come back down. Classic market manipulation for the dozenth time.

Everyone is definitely over and understating each others capabilities in public. I'd think they would have to.

Outside of that, I wouldn't expect the US Navy to have any hesitation operating in the Persian Gulf if our claims of wiping out Iran's capabilities were actually true. I'm an internet armchair general, but guessing the threat is still from torpedos, but it could be missiles or drones too. Whatever it is, it must outweigh the risk of losing one of our ships.

Appreciate you approaching this with at least some intellectual honesty. Not seeing that very much anymore these days. I think the missile/drone threat is minimal.

Torpedoes/UUVs would probably be the greater risk, but those require vessels to launch them and Iran basically doesn't have a Navy anymore unless you consider glorified speed boats to be a Navy. Even then I think those would be easy to spot in the launch phase and could be taken out.

The optics of Iran blowing up an American Carrier with hundreds of dead soldiers, many of whom would be on fire for the world to see, would mean the end of Iran. There would be serious discussions and wide spread support for nuking parts of Iran and moving beyond a military campaign, which for now has only been targeting military sites.
